    Hi everyone,

I am MSA student with tax specialization graduating in May and going to search for full-time job opportunities. I want to know besides gaining some experience, how VITA can benefit me in getting job opportunities. I have no work experience so far. Please provide guidance.

@kdcpa, why didn't you try campus recruiting this fall? Anyway, it all depends on firms. Some firms loved that I have VITA experience but some don't care much. But I would recommend having VITA on your resume. That's something that you could definitely like to talk about during interviews.

@ultrarunner thank you so much for the guidance. I did apply on campus during fall but did not end up getting the internship. I would like to do VITA this busy season.

VITA is good to have on your resume, its a good differentiator, but it wont lead you to any opportunities in and of itself IMO. Did VITA myself as an undergrad and it was a fun experience other than taking up weekend time but I cant say I've landed any job or landed any further along in the interview process solely because of VITA. It is a good reflection of character item on your resume.

@TommyTheCat, in your opinion does it stand you apart from other candidates or enhance your chances of getting selected especially for someone who has no work experience?

kd – yes. if i were hiring for an entry level tax position and saw two otherwise equal candidates and one had VITA and one didnt, i'd consider that as real work experience to a certain degree and value that candidate above the other.

Try to get a job through tempt agency, seasonal tax preparers are always needed during the tax season.

Most popular choice for first job to get the foot into the door is Roberhalf Accountempt, not sure if they have an local office near you. Just try to make sure you follow up with them in January after the interview.
