    Hello all.

So I am updating my resume for the purposes of getting BACK into public accounting. I was let go from my public job back in Decemeber 2016.. was essenially unemployed for all of 2017, in which I passed all CPA exams.. and Now I am working a government job which I know is not what I want… Because I want to be in public for the long term.

This is what I have right now… which is not that good, I know.

    Objective:
To obtain a Staff Accountant position in a Public Accounting firm to fulfill my long term career goal.

Could anyone help me fix it up. I essentially want it to convey: I am not working in public, but want to be… and I want to stay in public for my career.

No need for objective…if your applying to a specific job then the objective is pretty self explanatory. If you feel you really need one then I would talk about my strengths and tie them into how that could help in the role your applying for. Something like “As a detail orientated self starter, I hope to help immediately in my potiential responsibilities as tax accountant” that’s prob not great but the whole concept of thof objective is sort of for entry level people out of school. After that, you should be able to fill one page with your relevant work experience and detail that. Just like an entry level resume will have “activities” but as you progress no one wants to know that you enjoy jazz and play th violin. You only have a couple seconds really to make an impression, get right into what makes you valuable, ie. Talk about your work experience as much as possible.

I agree. I don't think you necessarily need a resume objective. I think you should let your work experience/education shine more than an objective.

Understood, Although I am looking to get back by entering into an entry level public accounting position even though I'm in my mid 20s.

My recruiter told me an objective explaining that I want to move back into public accounting would be very helpful since its soo hard to find talent in this area (and all fields in general in this economy).

Also, would you guys reccommend an objective if I wanted to relocate? something along the lines of: To relocate back to __________.
