@BrickellCPA – “not to be rude, but you guys are all pawns..”. If you don't intend to be rude, why post something rude by it's very nature? Awful input that is unnecessary. @Jeff, your thoughts on users insulting others on your boards?

@Lucy – All a CPA license does is get your foot in the door. If you always want to do people's taxes, audits, or accounting for the rest of your life then getting just a CPA is more than enough.

@arsenal – It's the truth. If you or anyone takes it as an insult, then it just goes to show your lack of real world experience. Maybe it's time to spread your wings and stop being a baby?

There is going to be nothing I will miss about this process when I am done. And becoming a CPA is where it ends for me. Thank you very much:) LOL

@Brickell – Your “truth” is simply an opinion that you're right to state. It, however, has very little to do real-world experience and more with an understanding of human decency towards others who have also shared their opinions/desires to enjoy life after passing this exam.

@arsenal – boohoo deal with it. Your feedback is shortsighted and misguided. Nothing is ever accomplished by crying.

Ahh, IIRC, Brickell has always had posts that have gone against the grain.

While I concur that the CPA should be a stepping stone, I do think that taking some sort of a break once completing the exam is a must.

Repairing any damage that may have been done to yourself (physically, mentally, etc.) and to your loved ones during the exam process should temporarily trump (no pun intended) any aspirations for further advancement.

I guarantee you that those credentials would mean a whole lot less without your loved ones by your side and your health in check. If that's not the case, then kudos to you for having the will to push through while ignoring those aspects of your life.

@BrickellCPA – There is a difference b/w you throwing an insult vs. someone taking offense. I am sure no one here is taking offense by your comments. They seem to take issue with you attemping to insult and belittle. There are much better ways to communicate your point rather than calling people cry babies and pawns.

No worries. Feel free to think and act like pawns. I consider what I've said merely to be “descriptive language”…and quite frankly all I did was state the obvious observation.

Anywho, I've given advice up above in this thread on how to excel and overcome the pawn life, but those of you have nothing to say about that and would rather focus on the “negative”. Pawn mentality.

Brickell comes on this board to brag about his life and how advanced he is because he is on a Board…lol. You know what they say about people who never can stop talking about themselves…i mean just look at the #45.

Here's one thing, if you cannot communicate properly and can't win people over, it doesn't matter what certifications or degrees you have, you are not going to be a leader. But then again, not everyone is cut out for that anyways.

Lol, you guys are too much. Too busy taking offense and becoming defensive in regards to insignificant things and derailing the thread to even realize the potential of the advice I've shared here. Sorry, but that's what crybabies do. That's not being rude or insulting anyone, that's merely using descriptive terminology to describe yourselves. If you take offense to it, then perhaps you should learn how to not? It would be greatly advantageous in your careers to do so, that's for certain.

I'm going to go the other direction and say I agree with Brickell (to an extent). For some the CPA was a cake walk and for others, not so much. Regardless of how hard the journey was I don't believe people should get complacent with their careers, hence why the CPA requires you to take CPE credits…they want us to constantly learn. In my opinion, it shouldn't just end with CPE's, we should want to continue to grow in our careers and be successful. Passing the CPA closes one chapter in our lives and moves us to the next chapter, it isn't the end. At least I sure as hell hope not, I'm far too young to feel like I've accomplished everything. Some may see that as adding on more credentials, some may want to explore other avenues unrelated to accounting(as Brickell said).

I think most, if not all, agree with what I said. Many of you are saying you don't want to continue studying for tests, which is fine. But everyone should want to progress in their careers and that doesn't necessarily just get handed to you after the CPA, you have to continue to find new ways to prove yourself.

Yeah Brickell is right, CPA is the first step to hopefully a fulfilling career with continued growth. That may be by earning a few more credientials or just by jumping in, gaining great experience and looking for the right opportunities.

I actually think most on this thread agree with Brickell. And I think most will advance and specialize.

But some find great joy and balance with JUST being a CPA, spending time w/ family, and hobbies.

I started MS program. It was tough as hell. I actually missed the time when I didn't have to study. I had that luxury after finishing CPA exams. But like some said here, CPA is just the first step.

    @ Brickell,

I am on two boards as a director. Due to my participation in these boards, since all of these directors seem to know one another from the various charities, I was asked to be an auditor for our state's Miss America pageant. My duties were performed well so I've got an ongoing invite to continue doing this. I've met so many people doing this, i've actually declined a few big director invites simply because I don't have time for too many. So i've been referring my friends. Its a win win for the community , the charities and so on. I definitely understand where you're coming from.
