Does anyone know whether military courses can be counted toward the 150 hours education requirement? My military transcript show 20 “ACE Recommended” credits. Does anyone have any experience where the board accepted or rejected these credits? Thanks

Glam, First of all congrats on being done. Second of all I had no problems with my military credits counting towards my 150 hours requirement. Although Ohio has an administrative code that addresses this very issue:

In accordance with Ohio Administrative Code, Chapter 4701-05, each Section of the Board has adopted rules specifying the military programs of training, military primary specialties, and lengths of service that are substantially equivalent to or exceed the educational and experience requirements for licensure.

Passage of the licensing exam is still required even if the military service meets the educational and experience requirements.

I did have to provide my dd-214 as proof of honorable discharge though. I am not sure what state you are in but I would check the State Boards site and look to see if they have any veterans/military resources on the site. Ohio has its own tabs that has this info on it.

Let me know if I can be of any further help. I know there are a lot of quirks involved with being in the military.

Glad to see more military folks coming into the profession; I found it to be a fairly natural transition. I did 6 years active before seperating and going to school full time on the post 911 GI Bill. It also reimburses your CPA exam too. For me busy season really isn't bad at all after being used to going downrange for months at a time. At least I get to sleep in my bed at night.

CPA33 I concur. I got back from Afghanistan and processed out the next month. Went right into school full time and working full time…I found it more of a relief to stay relatively busy doing things. Yeah at the end of the day at least you get to hop in your car and go home eat a hot meal and sleep in your own bed. I was going to request reimbursement for my CPA exams but the guy told me I would lose a month of benefits for each exam I requested reimbursement for and it didn't seems worth it to me if I was possibly going to pursue a masters. Do you know if that's true? They rejected my claim at first so it makes me doubt the competence of what is going on there.

They count in Ohio, that was the only way I was able to sit.

@YourHandsareCold: You most certainly can use the GI Bill to reimburse for the CPA exam, I did. Each test used about 2 weeks of benefit. I used my GI bill to pay for most of my undergrad and MBA and had a little benefit left to cover the CPA. Sweet deal.
