    I was wondering if anyone out there either lives in Medford, OR or is familiar with this location? I am considering moving there and was wondering what it was like there and what the job market for accountants is like. I would appreciate any input.

    I work in the Eugene/Roseburg area so am not too familiar with Medford. Demand for entry level accountants is always in high demand, but they usually get them from the UofO recruiting. It's been tough for an accountant with experience to get a job in public accounting in this area, but private is a dime a dozen.

    I believe that Jsmi77y is from Medford area, he can probably shed more light on this for you.

    I'm originally from the Salem area and spent the last 4 years in Eugene for school, so not super familiar with Medford. I do know that Moss Adams, which is a decent sized regional firm has an office down there (albeit it's probably the smallest office in the firm). I'm not sure if they go through SOU for their recruiting or what since only the Eugene and Portland offices recruited the U of O, but you could look into them. Also, I'm pretty sure Lithia Motors has a pretty good sized internal audit division down there if you're looking in that direction. They did a lot of recruiting at my school. Good luck!

    Thanks for the input. I am going to try the Moss Adams route and apply for an entry level position there and see what happens.

    @Wolfchicken

    Have you looked into PDX: Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Lake Oswego? Might be better job market compared to Medford.

    Hey Wolfchicken – I actually live in Medford, it's been a few years since I've looked at the job market. But there's actually a good amount here from public tax to corporate accounting. If you want a larger firm for the experience/opportunity then I'd look into Moss Adams. They often have openings, I don't know your skill level yet, but they have positions from Staff to Manager from time to time. That's where I got my start, tell them Jesse Smith said hi if you do :-p

    There are smaller public tax firms too, try Kosmatka Donnelly. Good sized firm.

    For corporate there's Lithia and Harry & David. Harry & David even runs an internal accounting department (used to work there too).

    There's lots of smaller firms as well, let me know if you have questions or if I can help you out. Good luck!

    @jsmi77y Thanks so much for the reply!!! I think I'm going to apply to Moss Adams and see what happens. Did you like working there?? I was wondering if you could give me some info on medford itself. For example, what the climate is like, culture, just what it's like to live there in general. I don't know anyone who lives there and I haven't got the chance to visit it yet but plan on it after my next test. I could give you my email if that works better. Thanks again for the feedback. I really appreciate it

    Wolfchicken – Unsure how to get my info to you.

    I actually liked Moss Adams a lot. I was unfortunately let go during the low economy about 4 years ago or so, but I like the people there a lot and it was a great spot to work.

    Medford is really growing, we get all 4 seasons fairly heavily. Summer is 90-100+ degrees, we get dustings of snow on the valley floor in winter, and feet up in the surrounding mountains (including a ski resort up at mount ashland). We have really good golf courses, outdoor activities, etc. Concerts are starting to pop up more around here too. It's really a solid spot to live. Ashland is where I'm from and that place is gold. Such a quiet pristine town, but a lot more expensive to live.

    Try and find me on Facebook? Jesse Smith is my name.
