Although I did not get a masters while I attended, Hofstra University offers a masters in taxation. The prices are a bit steep for credits but they had SUPERB recruitment opportunities, especially for accounting majors. They had every accounting firm, from small to big 4, come to the career center during both fall and spring and conducted interviews. I had 9 interviews during fall of 2010 all at the Hofstra career center and ended up getting 4 second interviews and ultimately 2 job offers. The reason Hofstra has such a large recruitment in accounting is there are lots and lots of partners on both LI and in NYC who are alumni of Hofstra. My only caveat about Hofstra is once again the price.

    FAR- 84 (August 2014)
    REG- 85 (November 2013)
    AUD- 85 (January 2014)
    BEC- 83 (May 2014)

Baruch probably has the cheapest, fastest Master taxation program. Baruch's pretty good with recruiting too as long as you attend those career events. Baruch's known to feed big 4 with candidates every year.

Baruch Alum, so i'm biased. But it has by far the best program relative to cost. Big 4 recruit at least annually if not per semester. More importantly, regional firms recruit heavily also. Big 4 is relatively higher pay for absolutely no life all year round. Regional firms sometimes offer better work/life balances, and still close to if not same compensation.

Pace University has one of the highest rated Masters in Taxation programs (They are actually ranked #6 in the country) and absolutely outstanding recruitment and career assistance programs as well. I've taken a class there towards my masters in tax and enjoyed my experience but the caveat is that all of their tax program courses are offered only in person in downtown manhattan (brooklyn bridge area is where their campus is)

I have quit the program because I'm working full-time and just can't make that commute so I'm looking to start the degree program again at a school that offers the program all online and with more flexibility. I'm probably going to take the degree at Bentley College, I know several of my coworkers have done it and its online program ranked great for class flexibility but their MST program is definitely not ranked as well as Pace's is. I highly recommend Pace if you can afford it and can manage classes in person.

Bentley is also a very attractive option if you must take the classes online, they offer a MST with a Certificate in Financial Planning without having to take any additional credits. If you want a dual MST and Masters in Financial Planning you can do so with just a few extra credits as well.

Cost for Pace was about $1,000 per credit and I believe Bentley is even more expensive. Quite an expensive affair indeed but I will have to deal with choosing a program and such after I knock out all the CPA exams first

I have been researching the cost of Bentley's program recently and it requires 24 Credits for about $32,000 just for credits. A little bit more for fees and books but thats really nominal compared to the tuition cost per credit. Probably no more than $35,000 tops for the whole program. Pace was $990 per credit when I took a class there in 2012.

I have decided to do a masters in taxation and just reading through this thread as been helpful. NYC is so expensive and I'm trying to decide which school is best bang for your buck. Although,, I did hear how excellent Pace was for accounting.

    FAR - 93
    REG - 87
    BEC - 84!!!!
AUD - 99!!!!!! CPA exam complete.

If you're interested in doing it online, DePaul, U of Cincinnati and U of Denver, among others, offer an online Masters in Taxation.

St. John's Alum here, we had all big 4 firms recruiting for leadership, internship, and fulltime positions (I had 4 offers out of the 5 places I applied to), and there were plenty of mid-size/top 20 firms at the career fairs (McG, BDO, MT, GT, etc.). Similar to the concerns noted above with Hofstra, St. John's tuition is not cheap.

Overall, I think the best choices in the NY/Long Island area (in no particular order IMO) are St. Johns, Baruch, and Hofstra. Those are the schools my girlfriend is applying to, for her MS in Tax.
