When someone is a candidate in the MS in Accounting program. When they are done and graduated, is the correct credential behind the person’s name

For the life of me I can't see the point in listing after your name at all. Yes I have a MS in accounting, no I will never use either of those on linkedin, my resume, or anywhere else.

I would lean toward MSA though.

No one who wants to be taken seriously does that unless they can't/won't get their CPA. It should be Joe Blow, CPA or nothing. MSA is for your resume, not your signature line.

If that were the case my sig would be Mrs. Bluegirl BBA, MSAT, CPA. Looks ridiculous doesn't it?

I haven't even thought about putting my MBA degree after my name.

Its a waste of time and space for me….I'm waiting for the real deal…CPA!

I work at a CPA firm and in the staff directory on the firm's website, all but 3 accountants have CPA after their name… me & 2 ladies in their 60's who don't have college degrees. I have an MSA and never considered listing it, however, a non-accountant admin person is shown on the website with “MBA”, which led to a discussion about my lack of letters…

For what it's worth, I have an MBA and you won't find that listed after my name anywhere but on my resume. The way I look at it is that some people are ok putting degrees after names, but some people aren't – they ones who are ok with it won't care if I don't include it, but those who aren't ok with it will care when I do include it. Better safe than sorry.

It seems to be much more prevalent for those without the CPA or any other certifications.

To answer your actual question, I've seen MSA used much more often than MS when referring to an accounting graduate degree holder. Much like the MAcc, it's more descriptive of the degree holder and is easily recognized by other accounting professionals.

I have a MSSW (from my prior career) and for a time had a social work license so was Double Jen, LCSW. When my license expired (because I didn't need to renew it since I wasn't a social worker anymore) I missed having letter after my name, so I started using Double Jen, MSSW. When I got my MSA, I figured I might as well add that so now I'm Double Jen, MSA, MSSW. But when I get my CPA license finalized (which is turning out to be a saga!), I'm going to drop them both and just use CPA.
