Is there any information relating to Male/Female CPA ratio? I know that females outnumber accountants overall but I wonder if the same holds true for CPAs.

I found this report from 2011, so it's old, but Page 43 has information on the Male-Female ratios in public accounting firms: https://www.aicpa.org/InterestAreas/AccountingEducation/NewsAndPublications/DownloadableDocuments/2011TrendsReport.pdf Not quite an answer since CPAs work in private, too, but at least halfway there. It's got some other interesting statistics in it too.

I've been curious about this as well since I always thought of accounting as a primarily male-dominated field, but my boyfriend always thought of it more as a female-dominated field, so I've been curious to see which was correct! According to that report, total staff in public accounting firms is about split evenly, though partners and owners are predominantly male, and CPAs are more male than female. So, I guess my boyfriend and I were both not-quite-right!

Don't have overall #'s, but the firm I ultimately signed with touted that bout 25% of their partners were women, whereas other firms its about 13% if I remember correctly. I don't know what their source was, maybe the flier is still somewhere. Depending how long the cpa designation has been around, id guess we (males) outnumber females just due to the ppl holding the designation from generations prior when males were more favored.

in my masters class, its about an even split, I would guess that new recruits and ppl in school see an even split, where leadership where ppl are older is probably still mostly males.

I used to work in the cruise industry here in Miami for about 6 years. This was a Billion dollar company with about 40 Accountants. Out of the 40, only 4 were CPAs (all managers) and this is the reason why I’m studying right now. There were about 33 ladies, 4 men, and 3 indecisive. The indecisive ones are very common here in South Florida. The drama there was crazy and this is one of the reasons why Im not there anymore.

Well, this answer is flawed because not all CPAs are members of the AICPA, however, their site touts approximately 30%.
