    Hi Guys,

Just wondering what would be a good stepping stone job to take that would transition me out of accounting? Analysis/operations type role I find would be fitting my long term goal as I don’t want to be an accountant long term. A little background; 1 year of public and little over 2 years in corporate, also about to get my CPA license. Would anyone please suggest some input regarding jobs to make the transition?

    Thanks!!

1 year of public means little, (you learned the very basics and left) especially if you switched to private right away. 3-5 years of public is ideal. Your options will be limited outside of accounting in your current industry, though the CPA will def help. Corporate accounting really doesn't add much value in my opinion.

What you can do is look to find a field in finance that interests you and pursue training that will help you get your foot in the door, and if you're good at selling yourself transition that way.

    Hello @titoav15,

I agree with Adam. To be honest, 1 year of public accounting and 2 to 3 years of corporate accounting/reporting doesn't help to get into operations side of any business. I would recommend or suggest that you explore opportunities in internal audit. Some org's have operational and financial aspect of audits, mostly it's former because latter is mostly done by external auditors. Once you get your hands on an operation side of audit, work for two to three years, build good relationships with client and business process owners. When opportunity comes move into business/operations side.

    Hope this helps.
