Has anyone taken these classes online before? I am burning through 4 between now and February so I can sit in either April or May of 2015. If you have, do you have any study tips for the tests? I am not overly concerned with my grade in the class, but you need to average a passing grade to get the credit. I am trying to study smarter, not harder on these tests so I can finish ASAP and just focus on the exam. Any advice on how these tests are would be greatly appreciated!

I took all my accounting courses though LSU's IDL – which classes are you taking?

In all of them, the simple advice is read the book and do the homework. I didn't study much for the exams specifically but took them ASAP after doing the homework, so everything was still fresh. I'd usually just spend a couple hours trying to review the chapters that would be covered. However, my method is all my other college classes was similar – to just review briefly before the exams – so treat these as you would any other college class in that regard and you should be good.

Thanks for the advice Lilla! It seemed like the best route was to just read and review but I wanted to make sure they don't try to throw a curveball at you during the tests. I am trying to get through these as seamlessly as possible so I can get to the fun part of taking FAR in Q2. I am taking 4022 – Advanced, 4421 – Government and Not for Profit, 3121 – Cost, and 4235 – Fraud.

I heard is a lot cheaper and faster to go the CLEP route.

@Martin CLEPs are definitely quicker and cheaper, but the only accounting course they have is Financial Accounting, which is like a first intro accounting course. I took the Financial Accounting CLEP, so I guess technically I didn't take all my accounting from LSU, but don't really count it since I think it was a 100-level course equivalent.

@Gronk I've taken Cost and Advanced out of that list, interested in taking Fraud but haven't. Advanced is a sucky course, but from what I've gathered, it is anywhere you take it. Advanced was my favorite course. 🙂 Just take them seriously but remember they're very passable.

I am currently enrolled in 4235 – Fraud (I need two more classes to reach 150 hours and apply for my license-all other requirements have been met). My husband has previously taken it and says that it is pretty simple. As long you do the homework and read the chapters, you should do fine on the tests (they are pretty straight forward). I have submitted the first 3 chapters worth of homework. Hoping to get this course (and an additional LSU online course) completed by the end of February, beginning of March. The only thing my husband said is that once you submit to take a test, sometimes it takes a while for LSU to send your test to the testing center for you to sign up and sit for it… Hope this helps!

@Lilla thanks again! Advanced is brutal, which is why I was trying to knock it out first! I scheduled my first test, so I am just reading the chapters and doing the MCQ's. Did the questions on the test seem similar to those in the homework assignments? Not word for word obviously, but are they similarly structured?

@WelpCPA how has your experience been with Fraud thus far? I am excited to get in to it, but also a little nervous. I definitely have seen how slow LSU can be returning your scores.
