Looking for first accounting job after passing the exams

I’m a bit lost… I graduated with a Master’s in accounting in 2013, and got very busy with my personal life soon afterwards. Aside from a 3 year part time stint in bookkeeping, and a 6 week internship in an accounting firm (in 2013), I have no relevant experience. I finally took the CPA exams over the last few months, and I’m now looking for full time employment for this coming fall.

One interviewer looked at my resume, with my Master’s 4.0 GPA, and high CPA scores and told me that since I had these advanced qualifications with no relevant experience, I was an odd case he wasn’t sure how to deal with. That interview did not end in a job offer.

Can anyone give me some advice as to who would appreciate my accomplishments despite the lack of experience?

Also, what kind of salary range should I be getting at this point…. (I know it’s broad, but just to get an idea)

In terms of location- I live along the Jersey shore (if that changes anything in terms of jobs and salary).

Is the bookkeeping gig your current position? I am not sure why the interviewer was caught off guard by your experience and qualifications.

Does the school you got your masters from get recruited by any firms?

I am guessing starting public salary is around $55k, but not sure.
