Ive recently joined the LinkedIn community, adding classmates from undergrad to hopefully branch out and be able to network and such. Was wondering if it would be worth connecting with some individuals on here to expand my reach in terms of networking and connecting with other CPAs/future CPAs. How is the best way for me to go about this? Would you guys be interested in connecting? Any benefit served from this?

Not exactly sure how to go about this either…do I need your names? email address? links? what?

As you browse around the forum, you'll find some people who have a link to their LinkedIn in their signature or in their profile (like mine – if you click my username, it takes you to my LinkedIn). If people have theirs set up like that, then I would take that as an invitation to add them.

I wouldn't count on that form of networking to land jobs, but you never know. I'm the type that's hesitant to give a recommendation unless I know someone's work well, so I'd never recommend someone for a job at my employer just cause we're networked on LinkedIn, but I have used LinkedIn to try to help encourage/coach people through exams or through the job search, simply as a means to communicate more directly…or to keep in touch and see how their career is progressing. Who knows – maybe at some point in the future, one of these random A71 contacts will end up in a situation that we do end up working together in some way. 🙂

I may or may not have read something about how LinkedIn uses certain algorithms to recommend you to potential employers based on your friends/connections. Since joining LinkedIn I've had several recruiters contact me with job opportunities. Figured maybe there was some correlation. Felt it was necessary to spread the word to our fellow CPAs/future CPAs who are in the job hunt and not yet on LinkedIn.

Also, anybody else who is on LinkedIn list themselves as a “CPA CANDIDATE”?
