Just Got Out of REG…..

So I finished the exam a bit earlier. I’m sure this has been said before but wow, the SIMS were really tough. Got the research question, but the other 5 had so many tricks to them, and I was dumbfounded on 1-2 of those. Becker needs to step it up in terms of what is to be expected when creating their practice SIMS, in my opinion. I was able to work through the problems but I can’t say for certain that my calculations on any of the SIMS were down the right path.

MCQs were fine, first testlet was a breeze and the next two were considerably tougher (but workable), so I felt like that was a good sign.

Has anyone felt similarly with the SIMS and still gotten that passing grade? Hoping to hear some stories that will make me go to sleep a little easier haha.

Welcome to the club. REG sims have always been a NIGHTMARE for CPA candidates. Many members of A71 will agree. Good luck and hopefully you passed : )

Where the SIMs at least manageable to finish (within 1hr- 1.5hr)? any advice? I'm taking it tmrw. I'm debating whether or not to study tonight or if it will even make a difference. I've said it so many times but I'm totally NOT looking forward to sims. I hope I can sleep well tonight and NOT panic tmrw.

@lavendersky – they are absolutely manageable to finish, but some were frustrating as to where to begin and that the tiniest fact could throw off all your work. I'd recommend leaving 1 hr and 15 mins at the least.

    Good luck!

Totally agree that REG SIMS are difficult. My jaw dropped after I skimmed through all 5 SIMs (excluding the research question). It took me every minute of my 1 hour and 30 minutes that I left from MCQ. Good luck to you all taking REG!

For every section that had SIMs, I was sure I failed based mostly on the SIMs. I usually had zero clue on at least 2 of them but somehow passed every section. The rule of thumb that has always held true for me (and many others) is the worse you think you did, the better you actually did, and the better you think you did, the worse your actual score.

I'm up next. Taking tomorrow!!!! Congratulations for finishing it! You need a well deserved rest and go for next if you have any!

I just took Ninja MCQ's Simulation Exam and was able to finish within 3 hour.

Is the actual exam comparable to this? I was able to achieve 70%.. Man Ninja's SIMs were punishing as well..

Any other advice would be great!

Ninja REG SIMs were what helped me pass…no question. I did them all. You need to understand how they work, because you never see the same one on the actual exam. I'd also leave a 1.5 hr for SIMs just to be on the safe side. Good luck to those who are sitting within the next few days!

Preface: I took REG on Monday. I don't think I did very well overall. I think I performed average on the first testlet. Second testlet seemed a bit harder and took me longer to get through, but it definetely still could have been considered “medium” and not “difficult.” When I realized that I was taking a too long on the second testlet I rushed to make sure I kept my pace. Then when I got to the third testlet is was a complete cake walk and I finished it in under 25 mins. This made me mad for rushing on the prior testlet and also made me feel like I had tanked the exam since the questions were so easy (This is based on rumors I have heard that if you get an easy third testlet you might be in trouble).

The reason I say all of that is because my SIMs were not difficult at all. There were few calculations and I wasn't required to remember many small details at all. In fact, for the few things I didn't remember off the top of my head, I was able to use the AL to find them. I know that the AICPA has said that the SIMs are completely random and that they have no correlation with your MC performance, but I can't help but wonder and question how I could have had such easy SIMs when other people have described them as being such a nightmare?

I took the REG exam on 14 august in California (NASBA state) and finished it at noon which is 3:00 p.m. EST. Will I have my scores on 25th August.

For me too REG SIMS were crazy. Who asks SIM question on Stock Redemption? Never saw this in the material I studied for Roger CPA.

Any help appreciated. This is my last one and I hope I pass. When I walked out I felt banging my head and get nightmares of the REG SIMS.
