Good evening everyone,

I have to get this journey off my chest..so forgive me in advanced for the rant I will be writing.

Graduated in 2012 with my bachelors in Accounting

2012-2014 I worked a combination of shitty temp jobs, failing corporations that overworked the living hell out of me and seasonal CPA firm jobs. I attempted to take the CPA in 2013, but due to job stress and other life factors, I passed 2 parts and gave up.

2014-2019 I worked someone decent jobs, but still..I never got past the senior level.

Fast forward, I am now nearly finished with my 150 credit requirement (masters in Information assurance in May 19).

I am ready to take the exam again…at the ripe old age of 31.

Im ready to take this seriously now. If anything, not taking the CPA has put a major freeze on my career, and has left me with the shittiest of staff accountant positions.

Right now, I am a senior accountant at a real estate development firm. I am doing well, but I will never advance without my license.

I look forward to studying hard with everyone in May.

@Andre It sounds like you got good experience. Don't give up. There's people older than me doing this, and I'm a decade ahead of you. Sounds like you've learned from experience, as well.

I have a similar story but mine is in tax-I can only find shitty trust tax jobs-

My goal is to be a Tax Director and I can't do it without the golden ticket C-P-A

Honestly I'm deathly afraid of not making it…but I'm not making it without it so wth right?

Also, I was 29 when I returned to school. I had to take 68 credits before taking the CPA exams, between 2 and 3 classes per semester at community and state schools. My bachelor's is in journalism. Since I still have my original school loans I had to take them piecemeal and paid in cash. I also didn't pass the exams right away. On top of that, I had to matriculate in a Master's program after the exams to get any firm's attention.

just go for it, you can do it!

English is my second language, worked full time while completing my masters in accounting (that is how many hours I was missing) and two small children. In addition, I started while being older than you are now.

It was not easy and thought of quitting many times but I can tell you that getting the CPA was the best thing I could have done for my career and my family. Those letters placed me at the top of the applications and I got a very good position.

It is hard but so worth it!
