I don’t want to go into a lot of detail, but I left my first job after 10 months because I wanted to get into a more specialized field and move to a city closer to home. A very reasonable reason for leaving. I started this new position 2 months ago, but this firm is not living up to the expectations they set in place. I do a lot of intern type work all day or I am waiting around for even the glimmer of a task to do, which is just more intern work. It’s not that I am complaining about doing grunt work, I just ONLY do grunt work. The work I do is not something I needed a Masters and CPA license for, could have been converting PDFs to excel in high school….. The field I am in rarely has job postings and I just found one for someone at my level at a more established firm. This job has a lot of things I was looking for including an international office where I wanted to potentially work in for a couple years if possible. I need advice if I should even be applying or if this is completely absurd. What if I got the job, am I allowed to leave a job I only started a couple months ago? If I am not allowed to be leaving so soon, is it disrespectful to the new firm’s time to even apply? I am an employee at will, so no contract is preventing me from leaving. Just non-disclosure.

My advise is from personal experience, do not look for the best interest of the firm. Look what is best for you, you are allowed to leave companies if you do not feel good about working in your current role. But I would suggest if you switch jobs, make sure you stay at the new job for at least two years.

It might be a slow time or year at your current firm.
You can talk to your manager/supervisor about your current tasks vs what you thought you would be doing.
If the chat does not produce any results or reassurances, then I say apply for the other position.
Just remember you currently have about one year's experience(as far as I can tell), and you have to start somewhere.
