Is there really anything that can be gained a day before the exam? - Page 2

I am trying to study, but after many weeks of studying (i would say about 10 weeks at least 25 hours a week) I just feel like I know what I know and the other stuff I can’t really master with less than 24 hours left.

I am going to do my second Becker exam. I feel that the first one helped me to see where I really understood and where I had to focus a little more energy.

I try to do a practice exam and listen to as much of the Ninja Audio for that section the day before test day. It's like a short review and gets me warmed up for the way the multiple choice questions will be worded.

    AUD - passed (April 2015)
    REG - passed (May 2015)
    BEC - passed (July 2015)
    FAR - passed (January 2016)

By now you've already taken your exam so this is a bit late, but I think it's important to say that everyone is different and is going to have different advice for you. Is this your first exam? If it is, you will learn what works best for you. For some, rest is key. For others, cramming is what gets them past the 75 mark. You need to learn what is best for you. The more exams you take, the more familiar you will become with what works for you.

I find general questions like this very difficult because you are going to get so many different answers, and that is likely to cause you more stress/anxiety. There are times when I am very active on this site and other times when I have to pull back because experiences other people are having don't match my experiences and I start to freak out. For example, I have read time and time again that getting harder testlets means you were probably doing well on the questions and will likely come out with a pass. I have sat for each exam and have never once felt my testlets getting harder. But after reading posts like that, I would panic, think I failed and that would affect the way I would study the next exam.

My point is, I think it's amazing that this site is here for advice and help, but just remember that one person's experience can be very different from another's with the exact same results.

I wish you the best of luck during this journey!

@ determined- I totally understand what you are saying about all the opinions. I too have a hard time with the testlets getting harder quandary!

This was actually my third exam and I have still not figured out what works for me! That is kinda why I asked. I usually spend up until the moment I walk into the test center studying. I have been told that you never feel like you studied enough for the test, especially when you are sitting there! I have pretty low esteem when it comes to the test because I have failed the two I have taken so far and I still don't know about this one.

I am a big proponent of taking your mind off of everything the day before the exam. I make sure to request off from work the day before and the day of my exam and always play a round of golf. Find that “thing” that you enjoy and do that the day before. It will help your nerves plus golf tires me out so I end up getting a good night's sleep! Good luck to all of us!

You will start to pass soon enough! Never give up and you WILL become a CPA!

What works for me is doing a ton of progress tests while studying. For example, for regulation, if I was on chapter 5, I would still do progress tests on 1-4 to keep that material somewhat fresh. I agree with taking a day off before the exam from work! This helps clear your mind and stay focused. The day before the exam I usually read my notes or jeffs ninja notes and do maybe 30 questions. I also make sure I get 8 hours of sleep. On my way to the exam I drive in silence. No music for sure bc I am the kind of person who won't be able to get a song out of my head lol. By test day I have listened to jeff on the audio more times than I can count so I don't think it's necessary to listen to it again. I just try and relax and stay focused.

It might be helpful to stick with one exam until you pass it. This way the info stays fresh and you can get the confidence from passing an exam.

I am on a rotation for school. However, after I take BEC I plan to focus on that beast called FAR until I pass 🙂 I like your idea about the progress tests. I do them, but it is usually towards the end.

I found studying for 4 hours before the exam doing MCQ's cramming hard helps me.

My final days consisted of a lot of MCQ's, and I was doing really well on them. But, when I cam to a question that I did not know I wrote down the concept for review. The morning of the exam these couple pages of notes are what I reviewed before going in, it made me spend my final time on the areas I was not good in. I saw a hand full of multiple choice questions and one simulation that I knew because of these notes, hopefully that was enough to put me over the top.

Studying the day before the exam can be beneficial. While studying for FAR, I marked small topics in the course material that was not heavily discussed. The day before the exam, I reviewed that material. One topic in paticular, required mostly memorization rather than conceptual understanding. The topic was only one or two pages in the becker study material. On exam day, a question regarding that material was on my exam. The answer was not intuitive and very misleading. Had I not memorized that material the day before, I would have for sure missed that question.

I know you've taken the exam by now, but just for the sake of conversation, I usually schedule my exam for a Monday so that I have the full weekend to review beforehand. For the two exams that I've taken thus far, I've found it very beneficial to read over notes and key concepts the night and morning before so that many of them, especially the ones I've struggled with or haven't reviewed for a while, are fresh. Like many of the other candidates, I've encountered questions on the exam that I never would have known the answer to had I not taken the time for one last review session. My ritual has become to drive to the local Sonic a couple of hours before the exam and chow down with my study guide in my lap (I attribute my first passing score to this very complex and highly technical process of feeding my face and dripping ketchup all over my notes). And you can't disregard the perks of a good night's rest. Your brain typically enhances and strengthens your memories while you sleep. Best of luck to you! Can June 9th just be here already?!?!?!
