    Hey There

I would like to know is it worth it, if you pass the CPA Exam and still want to pursue a Master degree in accounting or taxation? I know a lot of readers on this site have multiple degrees and is it worth it?

Honestly, I live in the Delta where a Master's degree means little or nothing. However getting those three little initials behind your name (CPA) means the world. I do not have my Master's degree but do have the 150 hrs as required by my state board. A lot of people have made the comment to me that I should have done my Master's instead of just getting the hours I needed in addition to my BS. Personally, in this area I do not foresee the use of a Master's unless I was to teach which is not something I am interested in. However, it's different with everyone but it wouldn't be more $ for me.

I did my masters of accounting before I sat for the CPA exam and it helped me prepare. My program was dedicated to helping us pass so I enjoyed the connections it gave me with fellow accountants struggling through the exam. However, there were a few people in my program that were already CPAs and they breezed through. While the rest of us were doing CPA prep material, they had special research assignments.

If I were a CPA and I did not have a masters, I would probably get a MBA. People fall in love the with MBA/CPA combination around Austin.

I start the masters of public administration in late August. I work in university administration and the CPA MPA is a hot ticket on campus with jobs in the six figure range. I'm excited to be starting something new.
