Looking for opinions on if it’s worth it for me to invest the time and money in this exam. Been out of school for 13 years, have my bachelor’s and MBA. All of my accounting work has been in a corporate environment, with a small exception of some part time work while I was in school at a small CPA firm. Currently reside in Illinois and have sent all the education info etc and can sit (I actually sat for 1 part 2 years ago but failed-I know i didnt study enough) I have no intent to do anything in public accounting, would mainly only be looking to get this as a resume booster. When trying to understand more details with illinois, it’s my understanding if you just pass and get certified, you can’t put CPA after your name on your resume. If you go to get licensed, you need experience requirements (which I believe is newer) With only working in corporate, I don’t even know if I’d be exposed to things to meet some of the experience requirements. My direct manager now is not a CPA so I’m not even sure how that would work. With being unsure how everything would even work getting the experience requirements (and i believe that’s the only way I could put CPA on my resume or say email signature at work) I’m not sure if it’s worth it to invest the time and money in the test when I’m just looking to be able to use the letters next to my name. Any of your feedback is appreciated.
