Is even considering this INSANE?

This is unreal. About 1.5 months ago, I left a small local firm for the Big4. That decision was based a little bit on money, and a lot of bit on resume boost and future opportunities.

The transition has been alright so far, not horrible. But, I certainly don’t like working 55 hours a week in September. I’m in audit.

The founding partner at my old firm called me tonight and offered me about 50% more than what I make now, along with an office, senior role, and really nice welcome back sign on bonus. They have had crazy turnover hit them all at once.

I obviously left on great terms and did enjoy my time their and got along great with my coworkers. Future opportunities just didn’t exist and the money wasn’t there at the time for what ever reason. Now, the $$$ is on the table.

His point was he’d be able to offer me a “normal life” in public accounting and the Big 4 culture is going to cause a lot of stress (which I tend to agree with).

Is this nuts for even considering this? FWIW I moved my girlfriend and I 2 hours away to a big city for the Big 4 and do have confidence I’ll succeed where I’m at and have unlimited opportunities in 5 years should I stay. The culture shock is LEGIT though. I left yesterday at like 6:45pm and my audit team was like shocked beyond belief and pissed that I had the audacity to leave that early even though it was still like a 10 hour day…thoughts?
