Best tip i learned from experience and from other people failures:

PLAN OUT your studying schedule and stick with it. If you do this, you will know whether you are on track and makes you focus.

If you do Multiple Choice questions…just don't repeat, but read the explanation why it is the answers.

Good luck, be realistic, be focus, be determined, and give up your social life and just study =)

Don't psych yourself out during the exam. If you see questions you don’t know the answer to just do the best you can and move on. Period.

I've heard many people say they thought they failed the exam just to find they got great scores. Stay positive throughout the exam no matter what and you just might surprise yourself.

Study tip – As suggested by Another 71, rewrite (over and over) your notes or the NINJA notes.

Career tip – While degrees and credentials are helpful, I found connections to be even more helpful in securing a job. And take the time to send a thank you note or email after an interview. Interviewers tend to appreciate a thank you for taking the time out of their busy schedule to meet with you.

When going to an interview, make sure you've done research about the company. A recruiter will immediately write you off if you demonstrate that you aren't knowledgeable about the company. For example, if you say you would like to work in New York City but the firm doesn't have a NYC office, you will not get a call back from that firm. Don't go in and rattle off a bunch of random facts about the firm, but at the same time, you should demonstrate that you're knowledgeable about it!

Also, don't let studying for the CPA take over your life. Yes, it's important. Yes, it's hard. And yes, you will have to make sacrifices. But don't completely neglect yourself and your relationships with others during this time. You'll regret it later if you've passed the exam but you've gained 50 lbs, you're way over-stressed, and you're all alone because you've let your relationships deteriorate!

I saw one person mention the Pomodora study technique. If you are not familiar with this, look it up! It is an extremely helpful way to study for anything.

Another tip is for CPAexcel users. CPAexcel creates a study plan for you once you enter the date of your exam. I HIGHLY recommend entering the date of the exam ONE WEEK PRIOR to your actual test date. The reason I say this is because CPAexcel only gives you one week to 1) redo all the MCQs you got wrong, 2) take a random selection of 60-100 MCQs, and review the material for the ones you get wrong, 3) take a practice exam, and review the sections you got wrong, and 4) keep taking the practice exam until you are scoring in the 90s.

I left myself a week and was only able to take the practice exam one time. I have not received my score yet (for AUD), but I really wish I had done it more times. Give yourself more than a week by planning the study schedule one week ahead of your actual exam.

My best study tip is for each section of an exam schedule out all the details. Schedule when you need to have the lectures done by, schedule out when you need to have the questions done by, and schedule time to fall behind. Life happens sometimes and if you leave enough room for the unexpected items that is helpful. I used to schedule everything tight and wondered why I failed 2 out of the 4 exams on the first try. Once I scheduled room for life I started to pass them. Good luck everyone! I guess I tell myself (after trying to take FAR for the 3rd time) that if this was easy there would be a whole lot more accountants out there! Stay positive above all πŸ™‚
