Just make sure and don't be discouraged by failure. As the reason most of us are on here is our own struggles with the test, you are in good company! 🙂

Just keep trying, and you will eventually get it done!

The best tip i have is to make sure that you have a place setup to study without a tv or internet connection. (unless required for your review course). I've found that trying to study anywhere that there is a TV is far too tempting. No matter how much you try, having the TV on “just for noise” will cause your studying to be much less effective.

The best study tip I can provide to CPA candidates is to stay focused and study every chance you can get. Think about what you get out of studying for half an hour versus watching TV for half an hour. The next day you'll be hating yourself for not taking advantage of that free time to study. Also, for the beginning accountants, learn Excel (queries, macros, formulas, all that stuff) like the back of your hand, I promise you it will give you a leg up on the competition.

My best tip is to take notes while you are working through MC questions. Secondly, dont just fly through them, read the wrong answers too, and know why they are wrong!

The best advice I can give and should also follow is: Don't quit.

I passed two sections and lost credit for both sections (lost BEC credit twice). I stopped taking the exams around the time I got married and just took another recently. It would have been much easier for me to do while single. I'm determined to get through them this time!

OOOH I almost forgot what saved my butt in school: For Pregnant Women working Full-Time:

PUMPING. I was in school for accounting credits when I had my baby and after I went back FT, my three pumps in the 10 hours I was away from my baby were a godsend for completing homework and studying for tests. It was hard to complete stuff in the evenings because I just wanted to be with my baby (and also I was exhausted from bad sleep), which meant that if I hadn't found a way to carve out the time during the workday then I would've lost most of my weekends to studying/assignments.

Three 30-min pumps = 1.5 hours each workday that are all yours. Or even if you're a speedy type, three 15-min pumps mean lots of opportunities to dive back into the material. It helps a lot.

Similar to the usual adage for the FT worker to use their 1/2 hour to full hour lunch, but I find that work things can make my lunch go wonky sometimes, and I then can't take the full time. But when you have a biological need, your time is solidly yours.

    Studying tips:

Sign up for an exam and then set milestone for each week (now till your test date). Depending on your schedule and time, you can set your milestone as (1) finish watching all lecture video under topic X and/or (2) finish practicing the homework problems for topic X. But, I would set it up, leaving the last two weeks prior to the exam for just practicing exam questions. With two weeks of “spare time” this allows you to narrow down your “cramming” and focus on strengtening your weakness. You will most likely NOT master that weakness in two weeks, but at least you can improve your chances of not having that area pull your scores down.

My interview advice would be to treat the interview as a conversation and be confident of what you are saying. Don't say anything that makes you sound amazing when it is not totally true. People interviewing you will be a senior manager or a partner and they have been there exactly where you are, and they know a bs when they hear a bs. Confidence is key.
