My advice would be to have a plan. Time management and setting boundaries is essential now that we are adults and have lives full of distraction.

CPA Exam: Listen to Jeff's advice, it works for passing the exam. Stay curious and take the opportunity to enjoy topics that interest you (e.g. tax deductions for business aircraft). 🙂 Accounting career advice: Don't resist personal investment in projects and relationships. Good work and others liking to work with you are key. Later if you want to be a Manager, act like one.

Make sure you leave enough time to study all of the chapters and leave room for missed days. I planned my schedule a little too tight and when I missed a couple of days of studying I wasn't able to catch up. I ran out of time to study all of the sections for BEC and got a 74.

Questions, Questions, Questions! And when you're done answering questions, review your errors, and do more questions!

My best tip is to set up a schedule and stick to it. I don't mean just write “study 2 hrs on the calendar”, I mean actually write in your calendar when you'll study. So plan out your day hourly and block two hours for studying. When you write out your time in hourly phases you'll be surprised how much more efficient/effective you are.

My study tips: after a long day of accounting during tax season, do not sit down on your couch. Come home, cook dinner while studying and go straight to your studying place. I feel if I sit down in my couch, even for a bit, my motivation deteriorates and I tell myself “Tomorrow, I'll study.” I kick myself test week when I look back on all the extra I could have studied. I feel the amount of time you productively study is the key, taking a day here and there can make a huge difference in the results you want to see.

    BEC- Passed (78) 1/14
    FAR- 4/14
    REG-
    AUD-
