My study tip would be to set realistic goals to finish any lectures, MCQs, etc then give yourself at least 2 weeks to review the material. I would recommend focusing on MCQs and keep redoing them because they allow you to really understand the concepts!

    AUD: 81!
    BEC: 75!
    FAR: 54, 74, 89!
    REG: 67, 86!

Study: MCQ MCQ MCQ and notes notes notes notes!!!!

Before I was taking screenshots of the questions and explanations I got wrong and rewriting them on Microsoft one note. While this worked in areas for AUD and BEC, I am finding physically writing the notes in a notebook, separated by tab is helping me.

During review I will rewrite these notes onto my NINJA notes to add more areas.

I am also listening to the audio whenever I can, even falling asleep to it!

    B 71 - 79 EXPIRED
    A 69 - 75 EXPIRED
    R 65 - 48 - 45
    F 56 - 61 - 65 - 64

Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Wiley Text and Ninja Notes

"The fish who keeps on swimming is the first to chill upstream" -311

Experience - Done, like WAAAY done.
Still need 30 more credits, in basket weaving (gotta love new CA requirements)

The best thing you can do when you are searching for a job in accounting is go to every networking event. Last fall when I was searching I went to 5 career fairs/networking events. You may feel that some of them aren't worth it but they definitely are. The first one I went to was a complete bust in terms of getting an interview. Where it helped was it gave me the experience and courage to go to the next event and know what I was going to be asked.

I didn't know it at the time but the firm I would get hired by was at that first event and was the first people I talked to. Based on that interaction alone they wouldn't hire me. They were at another event I went to and I talked to them again with my refined elevator speech. Three weeks later I was hired.

So don't get discouraged if you go to one event. Just be relaxed, they are just people. Talk to everyone!

    Exam Tip:

I would say the most important tip would be to give yourself enough time, so that your normal routine isn't affected too greatly. If you have a daily gym routine (as I do) then don't sacrifice it just to study. Plan your work, and then work your plan. Your normal routine is what is going to keep you sane during this insane process.

AUD- 2/14/14 (Assuming the Prometric Center in D.C. doesn't close!)

    Closer to Complete

    AUD 60 58
    FAR TBD
    REG 76
    BEC 84

The best CPA exam study tip I can give is to get comfortable with yourself and your limits quickly. Once you know how you study well – what times of day and in what environments – develop a routine and stick to it closely. Don't waste a lot of time waffling between methods or formats of information. Take what you have and get thru it as quickly and thoroughly as possible.

I'm about to sit for my first section and this is the first self-study situation I've been in. I wasted a good month trying to figure out what works best for me. Being a perfectionist doesn't help you move forward in new scenarios! Just get thru everything and then go back and review where you know you need to. And do as many problems as you can to ensure familiarity with questions. This is the advice I was given by my friend who passed all 4 parts the first time with Becker. (She did not work full time, FYI).

I'd say experienced the info for the first time quickly (online lectures or read thru chapter briefly) then start working problems. This will reinforce concepts as well as expose you to question format.

Also, don't sacrifice your health for study time. I initially gave up going to the gym to have more time to study. I found myself being more tired and not able to stay up as long as when I made myself take time for the gym between work and studying.

    Good luck to all!

While I have not passed any sections yet(only taken FAR once). I can only really give is career related. As far as a career goes two tips I can offer are:

1.) Always ask questions. Do not hesitate to ask questions whether it be project related, career advancement related, or just over all company related. Staying well informed and continuing to learn will play such a large part in your career. This will allow you to set yourself apart from your colleagues.

2.) Do something you love. Don't just settle for assurance because it will get you into a big 4 when you really want to pursue tax work or vice versa. If you are not passionate about what you are doing, you will hate it and burn out in 2 years.

    Good luck to all.

Put in the time!!! You cannot decide you want to be a CPA and do it half way. Dedicate time during the day…every day…and study. I did it with a full-time job, 3 kids, and a wife. It can be done!
