As a mother of 3 and full time accountant, and 3/4 a CPA…the best tip I can give anyone is to study as much as you can. Understand the material, hammer the multiple choice questions and rewrite rewrite rewrite ALL of your notes. I teach my kids and fiancé accounting as well. It helps me understand the material when I have to try to break it down in simple terms for them.

    My study tip:

    1) Set reasonable study targets with room for contingency events.

    2) Do not get hung on if life throws a curve ball at you during the exam process.

    3) Believe in yourself and do not let any moron make you feel otherwise.

My favorite exam tip – is to make sure you read every single word of the question and every single word of every answer. I also draw a little grid on the scratch paper and use check marks and x's when I am trying to narrow down an answer.

Thanks for the contest Jeff. My tip..Since I've been studying using many different CPA review books/programs, I would like to tell those doing the same..Make ONE of those your central studying tool. Follow the acronyms and techniques presented in that course and use the other materials/books and work around that main study course that you're doing. This will avoid major confusion for many. Other than that, I would say just take frequent breaks to stretch and keep sipping on liquids like coffee, tea, or water….Good luck!

My recommendation would be to do your research before purchasing any study materials. Just because something is marketed as “the best” doesn't mean it will fit your needs properly. It's also important to take into account which order you plan on taking the exams in since the material on it is continually changing. Do NOT purchase all your study materials at once because they will become quickly outdated and some companies are not as willing to update your material to the latest product. It's an issue I'm currently dealing with while studying for my last exam.

    Happy Studying!

I am studying for my first exam, FAR, and have learned so much more about my studying habits. It is important to take breaks, study one topic at a time and work MCQ's afterwards, stick to a study plan, and stay organized! You have to remind yourself that this is going to be tough, but it is worth it in the end. Your social life, home life, etc. may change for a period of time, but in the end it is worth it. Keep your head up and push through. Find what works for you and do your best.
