The thing that helped me the most with FAR was writing things down. I made a ton of flashcards, and often times, I never even reviewed then. Just the act of writing it down made the information stick. I don't think you really even need to make flash cards. Just outline the chapter or write down all the formulas with your extra time (I know, there's no extra time with CPA studying, but it's with it to find the time).

My study tip is to study in short segments. Why? People always remember the beginning and the end of stuff. Instead of one long session studying an hour. Study in 10-15 minute sections and you will remember way more!

My advice is in the career corner of things. After you've passed the CPA take one part dry, raw accounting, take one part what really, truly interests you put it in a blender. Mix on high for 30 seconds and find a niche which satisfies those interests.

We are not all doomed to vouch invoices until the cows come home or rubber stamp payables until we are blue in the face. Somewhere at the intersection of accounting, law, analytics and what you love, is a career in which you will naturally excel in.

    AUD - 75*, 88 done 5/14! (*exp)
    BEC - 74 , 77
    REG - 65 , 76 (10 point combooo!!)
    FAR - 69 , 75

The CPA exam really isn't THAT difficult. Most people work themselves into a frenzy over the amount of material and short window to show how much you've learned. This causes too many people to have difficulty is handling this stress that comes with the exam. Yes, it is a LOT of material. Yes, it only has a ~50% pass rate. If you prepare correctly and are confident going in, you'll do fine. If you are constantly studying and never taking any breaks, your brain won't absorb as much material. Take time to relax, recharge, and enjoy your life while studying. You will perform much better on test day if you go in relaxed.

I have several tips to share with everybody:

    1. Buy the NINJA Notes – Having good notes are crucial to studying. When I started reading the books, I found myself highlighting EVERYTHING, which was a waste of time. I mean, everything we are learning is important, right?? But how do you but all of this knowledge into a readable format to study from… NINJA Notes!!

    2. Rewrite all of your notes two weeks prior to your exam. I found this so helpful in digesting the information.

    3. Take as many MCQs as possible, and look at the reasoning behind all of your incorrect ones. Between your CPA exam prep program and John Wiley Test Bank, this should help tremendously.

    4. CPAexcel CPA Exam Prep – In researching all of the CPA Exam Study Programs, CPAexcel may be the best because IT NEVER EXPIRES!! It is with you for life until you pass all parts of the exam. And updates automatically with the latest information you need to know. Very easy to navigate and plenty of MCQs with helpful feedback on right/wrong answers.

    5. Accounting All-In-One for Dummies and Corporate Finance for Dummies – These two books have actually been great supplemental reading in remembering the concepts and formulas that you need to know for the CPA Exam.

    6. Never give up – I have been so close in packing it all in. But there are so many CPAs out there that have done it, and so can I! And so can all of you!!!

    Good luck everyone!!

My best career tip is to get at least a few years relevent accounting experience before you get your CPA. This will give you the time to see if you really want to go down this path. Getting your CPA is a big commitment and while it will bring you more opportunities and possibly an increase in salary, don't do it just for that reason.

I have 3 children and work about 25 hours per week. My study plan is to commit to 20 hours regardless. If I know I have to attend week-end games etc, I plan more study time during the week. Early mornings are the quiet time of day when I can best absorb. Someone told me to get adderall from my doctor to help concentration. My doctor agreed for a limited period of time. I am not ADD but it really helps me to study for extended periods of time. The adderall is probably the best tip anyone has ever given me!
