Considering I have not YET passed the CPA exams, I will give my best advice as an early career professional. Having worked at two different, large, national accounting firms and been involved with the recruiting process – I would say advice I would give, to land your first gig (atleast in public accounting), is to focus on selling your personality, energy and attitude you can bring to their firm – not necessarily your technical accounting skills. Too often, recruits/candidates think they need to tell interviewers how much they know about sale and leasebacks. Who cares….will you fit in? That is the question they are trying to answer!

    Good luck!

On test day, I keep things light. Try not to cram all the way up until you get frisked by the Prometric staff. Your brain needs time to process and categorize things. Don't stress. Breathe and let all those hard hours of studying you put in every other day of the previous week just flow from your fingers to the test answers.

    Good luck!

My best career advice is that culture matters. Just because something seems like a good position doesn't mean you'll be happy if the environment or people you work with suck. Try and investigate the culture or if you need to test the environment and get out before it sucks the life out of you.

When focusing on MCQs that are missed, be sure to focus on why answers are right or wrong and don't just write down the correct answer. It is cliche but it's true, the only place results come before sacrifice is in the dictionary.

Using Ninja MCQ, NINJA Notes, Audio, Flashcards and BLITZ, and 2014 Wiley Text

    FAR - (61,63)
    AUD - (68)

    Keep Calm and RTMFQ

Accountant, what is best in life? To crush your MCQs, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their SIMS!

I am 0 for 8 on the CPA exam, I was lead to this site by a co-worker of mine. She passed the exam a couple of years ago and swore by this website. My best tip would be to map out your study plan and then try to get about 2-4 hours of quiet time to study each day, with a cram the last two weeks of MCQs. I have a hard time with this as I have 2 year triplets!

Interview tip: RELAX. I was so nervous in my interview with D&T, I started gushing like a fangirl meeting Justin Timberlake. Needless to say I didn't even get a second round interview. On my interview with PwC, I joked about the crime rate in the city the guy I was interviewing with was from. I am currently a second year at PwC.

Everyone is smart, everyone is excited for the opportunity, you just have to make a real connection with your interviewer about something other than work.

    FAR - 83 (expires January 31, 2014)
    BEC - 73, 80
    AUD - 74, 62, 84
    REG - 72, 73, 74 One more chance.

I would say the best tip would be to never give up! I am a mother of 3 boys, with another one on the way, and still continue to study through it all 🙂 When I first started, I let a 74,72, 70, and 69 discourage me because I had studied so hard and spent so much time, that I did not want to take it anymore. Four years later, I have picked it up again, and I will get it this time! NEVER give up!!! 🙂

My best tip (from someone who hasn't sat for any part yet), create an hourly schedule for your week and stick to it. If you plan your study and leisure time, it will help you stay sane and on track.
