My best study tip is to get out of the house to study, and to listen to lectures while working (if your employer lets you).

Been attempting to complete exam on and off again for the last 10 years. Between working at Big 4 for 6 years, new job, personal life, etc., something always seemed to come up and I always made excuses to put off and not give the exam the focus and attention it deserves. Making 2014 my year to finally get done. I feel I always focused too much on Becker video lectures and reviewing my notes. Going to focus much more time on doing a ton MCQ's in addition to time reviewing Ninja Notes and Audio. My overall advice is to try and complete the exam within one year of graduating. To the best of one's ability, you should attempt to limit the distractions family, friends and work can impose and just get it done.

Step away from all your distractions and “GIT-R-DONE” as Larry the Cable Guy would say!!! It's easy to get buried in excuses but once you are fully committed to focusing, the possibilities are endless…..

One thing that I never thought about before was getting a good chair for studying. I have been sitting at my dining room table for 9 months in a very uncomfortable chair. My back kills me after 8 hours of studying even with breaks every hour or so. My husband got an office chair and put it at the dining room table and I can now sit for 2 hours without a break and I can get up afterwards without feeling like I'm 80 years old. It has been amazing! I am able to focus longer because I'm not constantly having to change positions to get comfortable. It took me studying for my third exam to finally realize this was a problem. Who knew a chair would make that much of a difference??

My tip – Do as many MCQ's as you can! When you think you've done enough, do more!

Ok so I admit I'm a lurker. I receive the emails,I come to the site, I read tips and blogs but I don't offer any good info. Maybe I feel like since I've taken 2 parts and failed 2 parts that I don't have anything to offer. BUT I DO! The best advice I can give is to create a study schedule and STICK TO IT. Not just once but both times I created a schedule made it pretty, it had dates and chapters attached I mean it looked like I was REALLY about my business, but the closer it got to my exam the more my schedule was altered. It went from 1.5 to 2 chapters a week to study and a good week and a half to 2 weeks to review, to “oh its the week before my exam so I need to hit up 6 chapters”. NO GOOD MY FRIENDS! One of the shareholders at my firm said to me “Not getting your CPA in this field is like running a full marathon (getting through school) and tripping at the finish line”. When I think about all the stuff I was doing during my prescheduled (is that a word?) “study” time I realize I was just wasting time and avoiding studying, so both times I got back those failing grades, was it a shock no? a disappointment? Yes because I know that studying for this exam is a temporary sacrifice and one that I could very well be looking at being half way through passing all 4 parts. So go ahead create your schedule, make it nice and look like a serious accounting workpaper in Excel (I mean mine was colorful and everything), but don't forget to make the sacrifice and stick to it. I know had I been more disciplined I could have put this behind me by now. Good luck to everyone! 🙂

How I prepare 3 days prior to exam:

-If you CAN afford this, purchase a CRAM course. I have Roger's CRAM and I think it is worth it. If not, go back through your notes, listen to Ninja audio while going over the written Ninja notes. Focus on your weaker areas.

-My study schedule is something like this: For example: Friday study 5-9pm, Saturday and Sunday study 8 hours each day(I break this up in am and pm sessions). Get good nights sleep. Study Monday morning 7-11am. Here I only look over SIMS. Schedule test for Monday at 1:00pm. This schedule was also recommended by another Blog I follow and I am 2 for 2 following this schedule. It takes advantage of your short term memory. Of course everyone is different.

-For FAR and REG especially, you have to give enough attention to practice SIMS. That worked for me. It helps so that you are not so intimidated when you get to the SIMS on exam day.

Hope that helps. Remember it is test of discipline. Good luck to all and it will be well worth it in the end.

The best advice I can give for the exam is pound lots of MCQs, noting all explanations given for the questions, whether be those we got wrong or right. In addition I would recommend to stick to the study plan from start to finish making sure to pin down all practice questions, progress tests and final exam provided in the review material.
