STUDY TIP – COMBINING NINJA NOTES + AUDIO + YOUR OWN NOTES (USING SCREEN SHOTS IS KEY)

What has worked best for me is I retype the NINJA notes in Word, then I take Screen shots and crop Visual Graphs/Images/PASS Keys (Becker/Wiley, etc. only takes 10 seconds to crop and add to notes with MAC) and drop them into the Word Notes in the appropriate topics.

Then I listen to the NINJA Audio while reading along in the NINJA Notes, that have now been supplemented with Visual Snapshots that have I accumulated from Becker MC/Wiley Simulations, etc. (the visual pieces reinforce the notes).

Listening + Written Notes + Visual Snapshots = Great recap to reinforce broad knowledge the day before or day of an exam.

My best tip is if you've got kids, find someplace outside of your home that has wifi and strong coffee (and that won't kick you out for using their wifi for hours on end). Become a regular and tip extremely well for that pot of coffee. The servers will figure out exactly how to take care of you and keep those tips coming.

    FAR - 86
    BEC - 88
    REG - 83
    AUD - 74, 89 Done!!!!

Two business classes between me and being a FL CPA!!!

For exam studying I find that I'm a big procrastinator in terms of checking news/chatting/anythingotherthanstudying, so I've recently started doing this one study method I found works well in getting through material. I like to think about it like interval training in that I spend 20 minutes focused on the study material and at the end of every 20 minute interval I allow myself to do anything but study for 5 minutes. At the end of 5 minutes I'll go back to studying for another 20 minutes then break for 5 minutes – rinse and repeat. This relatively short amount of time I found to work pretty well for those of us who can't sit quietly in a library for 2-3 hours after a long day at work.

    Hope it helps – enjoy!

Well, I just started studying for the CPA Exam (going to take FAR May 3rd), so don't really have that much advice. I guess career advice – just ask a lot of questions and work your tail off. I started out as an executive assistant to the accounting department, and a year and a half later I am now a Tax Associate. I guess it's a combination of right place right time (we just got a new CFO who wanted to mix things up), more work to distribute around (so I got my hands on a myriad of different projects) and asking for what you want (I told our new CFO I was interested in Tax and would like to be considered for the position). And here I am working my first busy season 🙂 Hard work doesn't go unnoticed, and if it does, you should probably reevaluate if where you are is right for your future goals to be accomplished.

One of the most important study tips for me has been to give myself adequate time to study. Do not make an unrealistic schedule and force yourself to sit for the exam on a certain date if you are not prepared. I have learned the “winging it” method doesn't work for the CPA exam. So adjust your schedule as you go, because life happens and you can't always plan for it. Oh and also do multiple choice questions until you can't stand them anymore!

You can maximize your non-exclusive study time by keeping flash cards handy. I always take a few with me when I walk to the kitchen or printer at work, ride the bus, or wait in line at the store. It helps me keep topics fresh and solidify concepts.

My best tip for studying is: stay motivated. Understand your goal and understand that it takes hard work. Nothing worthwhile comes easy and it is always important to keep your eye on the prize. You can become a CPA and you will become a CPA. If you keep this in mind at all times, work hard and actually study, becoming a CPA will be in your future. Best of luck to everyone!!
