My best study tip is to slow down when reading the questions. I can't tell you how many times I would read the question and pick the incorrect answer because I missed a “not” or “lease” or “most”. Slow and steady wins the race!!

Career/Study Tip: If you work a full-time job (public or private) try to think what works best for you related to study habits.

    – For me, waking up early was the easiest and would provide me with additional time to study since I wouldn't have anything else to distract me (loved ones, tv, etc).

    – take copious notes on whatever lectures/videos you are taking: this way you don't have to try to find that one section in that one video. If you take good notes you can just remember what lecture to reference and you are on your way.

    – take advantage of this forum for any questions related to your test materials (not actual test questions… that's a no-no), your peers here are more than willing to help and they usually can help answer any questions you might get hung up on.

Good luck! You can do it!

My study top: Before moving on to the next section I like to put acronyms from the previous sections of issues or topics that I am weak on. And I review the post-it notes before each section and talk it through to better understand.

CPA Exam Study Tip: If you come across a phrase, concept or definition that you find difficult to understand when reading over study material or listening to a lecture, repeat the concept or definition aloud and accentuate important words. If you can phrase the concept in another way that makes more sense to you, do that and repeat it. If you are in a public place, you can still practice this trick by sitting back and silently repeating the concept/phrase in your head. It sounds a little silly, but it helps me!

    Keep on working on MCQs.

Review the answers to each question, correct and incorrect.

When working on MCQs, read the question before the fact pattern.

My tip: If you work, I recommend the following:

    – 60 minute study session before work (7AM – 8AM)

    – During the day complete 40 – 60 MCQ (lunch, downtime, just whenever)

    – 60 minute study session before you go home (ie. 6PM – 7PM)

    – Good dinner. Kiss your spouse. Play with the dog.

    – 60 minute study session after everyone goes to bed (i.e. 9:30 – 10:30)

    – Pass like a champion – HIYAAA

Repetitiously do MCQ's, I like to have a candle lit while I study (I find it calming and I don't know why) and have a drink or two. It helps sometimes.

    BEC - exp 2/28/13 (crap)
    AUD - exp 11/30/13

The best study advise I can give is to understand that things happen…. we all have these great study plans and are sticking to them and then something happens like you or your child gets sick, a big project at work and you find yourself not on “your study plan”. It's OK, as long as you know that you have to spend a little extra time to get back on your plan then you are good. Sometimes that even means changing the date of your exam. It happens, it's called life and we all are doing this together.
