My best accounting career tip is – Find someone a few years ahead of you to be a “mentor”. Look for someone you can be comfortable around and ask any questions you may have.

Tip: Look at your calendar before starting your study schedule. Make sure you point out any holidays, birthdays, or fun events that are planned, and account for these days so you don't miss out on something important. Incorporate these days as “free days” into your study schedule!

    B: 83 (10/31/14)
    A: 74 (1/21/14), 83 (4/14)
    R: 82 (8/14)
    F: 80 (10/16/13)

    Exam Tips

    1. Set a realistic goal for studying

    2. Take quick breaks, but don't forget that you have to start studying again!

    3. Practice MQ's. If you're struggling with a second, then concentrate on it and LEARN the material.

    4. Be confident! Its hard work but you will achieve anything you set your mind to!

What worked for me was to schedule all of my exams at once (so I couldn't just reschedule one, as it would then run in to my study time for the next exam), create a study plan, stick to my plan (even if that missing out on other things sometimes), schedule days off from studying, and have a reward planned after each exam. I took a trip home to Seattle after one exam, went to a weekend music festival after one, etc. It gave me something to look forward to after the pain and anxiety of geting through the exam!

    AUD 75
    REG 89
    FAR 78
    BEC 75
    ...now on to ethics

My exam and career tip would be to stick through the studying and the exams right after you finish school. I had the misfortune of being laid off 3 months after getting my Masters from the CPA firm that I was at for 3 years.

I let other things come first after that and put off studying. Hard to get back into studying habits when not having classes for 3.5 years.

Hard work pays off, stay dedicated.

The best piece of advice that I have for the CPA exam is be careful how many sections you select on your application. Only select the number of exams you believe you can realistically take in that application window. If you sign up for four exams but only have time to study for two, you will end up wasting money. Remember the CPA exam is a marathon not a sprint!

Career tip – Always network, network, network! Talk to and meet lots of new people, even if its completely not related to accounting/work. It might pan out in the future.

My best study tip- set a plan of what you need to get done in a day and then to stick to that plan.
