The best tip I can give is to do lots of MCQ, also try and focus in the area(s) that you are the weakest in, no point in doing MCQ for stuff that you already know.

My best tip for passing the exams is to have discipline and study. It is very hard sometimes to make and stick to a schedule. Treat it like a part time job, put a program on your computer that locks down the fun sites, and do it. I haven't failed a single test to this point.

My best study tip is to spend time on simulations!! Don't rush while taking the test; make sure to give yourself ample time. Make sure you are 100% sure your answer is correct before moving on. this is especially important for Audit, which information from Financial is included.

    TBS Tips

    1) Allocate adequate time, no less than 1 hour at the least.

    2) After T3 and before starting TBS, take restroom/water break, and request for the replenishment of 2 new noteboards and pens.

    3) Tackle each SIM one at a time. Some candidates try to take a peek the entire SIMs before starting to answer. If you have 7 items, 5 minutes or so are wasted just by browsing and flipping back and forth, only to intimidate yourself with the difficulty of them. Just answer one SIM then move on to the next one.

    4) Watch the clock. Let’s say you have 1 hour and 30 minutes remaining for the entire TBS, add 60 + 30, then you have a total of 90 minutes for the 7 SIMs. Divide 90 to 7, you get 12 minutes or less for each SIM. Deduct 12 from 30 (equals 18), that means at 1 hour and 18 minutes remaining or earlier than that, you should be moving to SIM#2. Mark it on your noteboard, Time> 1:18 to remind yourself when to move onto the next.

    5) Do the same thing on your next SIM. Let’s say in your SIM #1, you were able to answer it for only 8 minutes, that would give you 1 hour and 22 minutes left for the next 6 SIMs. Add 60 minutes again to 22 minutes, it will give you 82. Divide it to 6 and that will give you 13 minutes each SIM. Again, subtract 13 from 22. At 1 hour and 9 minutes, you should be able to answer SIM#2, then move immediately to the next one.

    6) When you see on your noteboard that the time is up as you marked it, you have to put your answer, sure or not. Flag it so you can go back to it when you have spare time to put the final answer after completing all of the SIMs.

    7) On AL, pray that you get one short sentence or two. Rewrite it on your noteboard as is. It is easier to research it having one page than flipping back and forth to research and AL pages. It is like working on and comparing cross-stitch work patterns with your paper. It can also be compared working with 2 monitors in front of you. Rewriting the task may take a minute or two to do, but it’s easier and more efficient to glance over the AL and find the exact answer being asked. Use common CPA abbreviated acronyms like FS for financial statements, BS for balance sheet, IS, NFPO, SCF, WC, FA, etcetera to save time in rewriting the AL question.

Accounting Career Tip: Personality, education, and experience can take you anywhere you want to go in the world of accounting. Today, I stumbled across a recruiter's notes over his interview with me. He wrote that I sounded like a good candidate, was articulate and upbeat in personality, and gained a solid skillset in SAP. I am glad to report that I have been working with this world-renowned energy service company for six months now, and the company is completely supportive of my CPA pursuit!
