I am just beginning the process of re-taking the exam. I am 32 and never had a desire to take the exam until recently. My suggestion is to take the CPA immediately after you get your degree. It has been very difficult to get myself back in studying mode since I graduated a number of years ago. Now that I am diving back in, I need to keep up my self-confidence and stick to my schedule – that's the only way!

Get up super early and just go for it in the morning, no other distractions. Just get up and get an hour or two of studying before work and get on with your day. I find that 4:30am is a very quiet and peaceful time to get in some serious studying in.

If you have flash cards, make sure you utilize them the day before the exam. They contain lots of details that you may have omitted when studying.

Try not to get too stressed. I remind myself of a quote by Tug McGraw about being upset about pitching a bad game. “Ten million years from now, when the sun burns out and the earth is just a frozen snowball hurling through space, nobody's going to care whether or not I got this guy out.”

Same goes for passing these exams…

CPAexcel, NINJA 10 point combo, & NINJA MCQ

"Pain is temporary, it may last for a minute, or an hour, or a day, or even a year...but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit however, it will last forever."

    Career Tip:

If you are still in school, apply to as many scholarships as you can. Most schoalrships have the same question and you can reword your answers to tailor it to the new schoalrship that you are aplying for. If you win, you have been established by a third party saying you are great at accounting. Once you apply for jobs with that background and they see that other organizations have established you, you will more likely get the job.

Every chapter or so, try to zoom out and look at the big pictures. They throw a lot of details on you for each section and it is easy to get lost in those details, the challenge is to tie in the massive amount of information to where they belong. Sometime we understand a concept and we are not sure what to do with it for example understanding a portion of a tax schedule but not being sure where that will afftect the 1040. It takes some effort to reorganize the ideas and understand the relationship between different concepts. I'm still being challenged by this and trying to improve. Good luck 🙂

Eat, sleep, exercise CPA. Find your toughest workout and include some NINJA audio. Even find that toughest mind workout with some MCs and more MCs and a little Sim time. Nothing better than listening to some NINJA audio while working through that stack of tax returns with your mind in a boil only getting more hungry for learning some CPA materials. The wait? What wait? It's (the CPA Exam) here and it's time to kick some tail. There's no time to get discouraged or scurred….go in, use those muscles, that REM, and power through. Wishing all the best!

Stick to a schedule so that you don't feel overwhelmed in the end. I know its hard to get yourself to study, but make it easier on yourself by not having to cram so much information in the end.

Also, hope you have a little luck on your side on test day! 🙂
