    1. Make a plan.

    2. Order and use the NINJA materials (Audio, Notes, Flashcards).

    3. Have confidence. You must believe that you can and will pass.

    4. Sacrifice. “To be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we can be!” ~ Eric Thomas

My study tip is to listen to the Ninja Audio on your commute. Also, as the video lessons are playing, underline important topics in your book. It helped me to focus.

My tip: Give yourself 3-4 full days at the end to review and do solid problems. Take vacation days if you need.

I think it is very important to have a healthy lifestyle..good food and exercise…It helps me to retain information if I am exercising…now it is a different story how to take time between work, job, kids, home, cpa study and now exercise..but that works….Also, I feel the NINJA notes have helped me a lot…I also take my own notes in addition…good note- taking and flash cards really helped me pass my AUDIT exam.

Take a deep breath. Visualize yourself during the test being stressed. This will prepare your body for the challenge. Change your mind about stress and you can change your body’s response to stress. A study found that if you think of stress as a challenge to your body, you need to rethink your stress response so your body dos not release chemicals that waste energy trying to relieve that stress. Just remember, YOU CAN DO THIS!

My advice would be to do whatever is comfortable. So many people recommend that you wake up early to study, study so much time in advance of a test and leave so much time for review. While this advice may work well for some people, it won't for everyone. What matters is YOU passing YOUR test in YOUR own way. Take care of yourself, mentally and physically, work hard, and you will get it!

I haven't sat for any of the CPA exam parts yet (starting February 2015), but I took/passed actuarial exams in my former career. Those exams are along the same line as the CPA exams in terms of quantity of material, study time needed, and sheer stress involved! So, here are my tips for taking this kind of standardized test:

The thing I found most helpful in passing those exams was to over study. On the tests I felt I knew much more than I needed to know, I did the best. This is not to say I had perfect scores–far from it–but I did manage to pass them. On exams I felt I knew “enough”, it was never enough. Study so you feel you can teach the material…that's the level of “knowing” I had to reach before I ended up passing those exams.

The second most helpful tip was to recognize that in order to succeed at the exams, I would have to sacrifice free time I could be spending doing something fun for study time. This is the hardest and most important thing of all–every moment I spent studying was a moment/topic I ended up needing to know. All the moments I blew off studying to watch reruns or hang out with my friends were moments I couldn't get back. It's a short-term sacrifice for a long-term payoff and it's worth it to make the time sacrifice now.

Best of luck to all who sit!

    Debra

REG 70, 80 (with NINJA help, up 10 pts! Woot!)
    BEC 78 (NINJA ROCKS!)
    AUD 78 (NINJA WOOT!)

RTMFQ. Read it 2-3 times before you look at the answer choices and recall what YOU know about the topic. Then look at the answer choices and select the answer that matches up with YOUR fact nugget. Especially with Audit, the answer choices can often confuse you even if you are solid on that topic. Read the question carefully and don't let the exam trip you up! 🙂
