My study tip is to differentiate your studying, working and relaxing environment. If I study where I don't play, I'll focus better.

My advice for the CPA review is really get your energies synced, pull it together, make a plan and stick to it, gather support from family and friends, commit to studying 110%, and just use any little time you have to spare to study. Sacrifice for a few months and benefit for a long career ahead of you.

My best CPA tip: don't study for hours on end without a break. Take a short 5 or 10 min break every hour. Your brain is like a muscle, it needs breaks just like your muscles do. Which reminds me, you also need to make an effort to be healthy which will help you think clearly. Get adequate exercise, sleep, and eat heathy. And lastly, put the time into studying. I studied over 200 hours for each exam. If you put the time and effort into it, YOU WILL PASS!

    BEC - PASS
    FAR - PASS
    Audit - PASS
    REG - PASS

From personal experience, my best study tip is to make sure your health is in order. The exam doesn't mean a darn thing if you aren't healthy. I've had three stints in the hospital that not only sucked, but they took away from valuable study time if I had just put myself (and my health) first. Eat and sleep well, and make sure you get at least 30 mins. of some sort of aerobic/cardiovascular activity per day while studying. Do all this, especially the night before your exam, and if you're diabetic like I am, make sure your sugar is under control. There's nothing worse than having low (or high) blood sugar while studying or actually sitting for the exam!

My tip is schedule your test for Monday. Take the week before your test off of work, heavily reviewing all material and pound MCQ's. Go into the test we the I will kill it attitude and make sure you take you NTS.

My tip – Take the exam until you pass right after you finish your accounting degree. Do not plan to go back later…it took me 20-ish years to retake it after I didn't pass the first time around.

    FAR - 93 (YAY!!!!)
    REG - 93 (Double YAY!)
    BEC - 87 (Whew!)
    AUD - 96 (DONE!!!!!)

What works for college studying does not necessarily work for studying the CPA exam. I agree with Jeff to “put the highlighter down”. In college highlighting important information was sufficient for learning. When I first started on my CPA journey I would highlight the study materials and thought that was good enough for memory retention. Restudying for the same exam I started writing down the correct information from the MCQ's that I got wrong and any other tips like from the “hint” tab. Sometimes the “hint” tab on the test bank, Wiley test bank, is a very useful exam “nugget” to record in your notes.

    AUD 72 82

    FAR 2/22/14

    REG 2014

    BEC 2014

Take time to understand the material and not just do MC questions for the sake of doing them!
