My study tip is to never give up. Sounds simple, except studying for the CPA exam can be long, tiring and frustrating. My study tip is to never give up and continue to push because there will be times were u don’t want to study, and you will want to give up. It is important to make the best use of your time. This will include studying every moment you have free time, rewriting notes and doing multiple choice questions. This will help to pass the CPA exam. Hard work and dedication pays off, so never give up so you can achieve your goals.

The best piece of career advice I can pass on is to keep your own counsel. That doesn't mean you have to live like a hermit at work. It means you should be careful about letting people know what you're planning career-wise as well as personally. People talk and gossip, especially when you're all stuck sitting in an audit room all day for weeks on end. If what you share is something you don't want spread throughout the company, then keep it to yourself.

I'm studying for my first section (REG) now, and have been doing what always worked for me in college. I would take a stack of scratch paper to the library and work problem after problem or write my notes from memorization. I plan on planting a few trees on Arbor Day to make up for this, but it works! I've learned that writing and doing helps me retain information more than just highlighting text. Also, I do MC questions over and over…

The best tip I can give for studying for the CPA is to break the material down into small “bite” size chunks. I find that I have a hard time focusing when I think about the thousands of multiple choice questions I have, but if I break it down into 50, 20, even 10 at a time I feel better about it.

    FAR: 77, Lost credit, 69, retake 02/2016
AUD: 76, lost credit, retake 04/2016
    REG: 75
    BEC: 68 (didn't study), 71 (studied 2 days), 76

2 CPA study tips that were helpful for me:

1 – Make sure you get through all the material at least 2 weeks before your test date, so you have plenty of time to review everything again and focus on your weaker areas

2 – I used the Gleim software, which shows the % correct of all MCQ you've completed for each subchapter. Set a % goal for each subchapter and do MCQ until you get all the MCQ % above your goal. For example, if you've only gotten 55% right of your Financial Ratios questions right so far, keep doing Financial Ratio practice questions until your overall % is a 75% or whatever you set as your goal.

    BEC - 86
    FAR - Feb
    REG - May
    AUD - Aug

“I don't have time” is the grown up version of “my dog ate my homework..” It's an excuse. When it comes to studying for the CPA, you can come up with countless excuses. Unfortunately, excuses don't make results. Commit to making a study plan, and sticking to it. The best piece of advice I recently received is to not compare yourself to others. Whether you pass on your first attempt or your fifteenth attempt, you eventually got there, and that's what matters.

Take your time and READ READ READ the exam questions carefully….my first attempt at auditing it took me 2 hours and I made a 67 ( I thought I made in the upper 90s) The second time around and not much additional studying, I carefully read the questions and made a 92
