I haven't passed (or taken) any parts yet, but i went carefully read the book (gleim for BEC) while scribbling notes to try to help commit the information to memory. Then went back through and typed up cleaner looking notes to have something to re-write and have a nice clean summary

    B: 88 2/25/14
    A: 81 5/12/14
    R: 71, 84
    F: 78 10/14/14

My top piece of advice is to do as many multiple choice questions as possible until you feel comfortable and go into the test with confidence.

    Study Tip:

I am no expert but I have found that making up silly mnemonic devises helps me to remember calculations. Sometimes it is easier to remember something that isn't accounting related when studying. They force me to put things in the correct order and because I tend to make them ridiculous I don't forget them.

    For example:

    Mnemonic Device for Tax Calculations

AGnes IS PoopeD. TIme TRavel was GReaT but Too Costly And Tiresome. Never again, Thanks!

    AGI (Agnes)

    – Itemized Deductions (p-o) or Standard Deduction (IS)

    – Personal & Dependent Exemptions (p-o) (PoopeD)

    = TAXABLE INCOME (TIme)

    * Tax Rate (TRavel)

    = GROSS TAX (GReaT)

    – Tax Credits (Too Costly)

    + Additional Taxes (And Tiresome)

= NET TAX (Never again, Thanks)

I know it's stupid, and doesn't exactly make sense, but whatever gets you to remember it right?

    Good luck!

I've started studying for an hour and then taking a 15 minute break and doing something completely different yet productive. I found I could study for several hours this way and still manage to do the dishes, the laundry, etc. All of those little things that distract me while I study.

I haven't passed anything yet, but I would say don't under-budget your time. Things will come up and you will get busier. Running out of study time does not allow you to pass an exam. Also, do as many m.c. questions as possible!

My best studying tip is to STOP WATCHING 4-5 HOURS LONG LECTURE VIDEOS!!!!! Open up your review book, grab a note pad and pen and starting writing notes like you were back in college. Teach yourself the material. If you get hung up on a topic, only then should you watch that topic's lecture. Once you get through a chapter, watch the NINJA BLITZ video(s) related to that chapter to get a recap of the what you just learned. Then it's time to start your MCQs!

I will provide a couple personal experiences with both the CPA exam and professional career.

CPA Exam: you can never study enough, its a mental battle. Any down time you have should be spent studying. Whether it be on the train, waiting in the car or doctors office, and so on. It really is a full commitment of your time. After sitting twice at this point I have honestly come to the conclusion that you must sacrifice your social life to complete these exams. Its a small sacrifice for a big gain in the long run.

As far as professional career goes and being younger to keep your long term goals in mind. Jumping jobs for more money, less work, or so on doesnt pay off. Like the CPA exam there is no easy way out.

    Goodluck all!!

    Study tip:

The key to a CPA exam is to do as many MCQ as you can. Sometimes it is hard to sit for hours doing just that and not feel like you are going a little crazy.

So, I do intervals where I study for 45 min and rest (or do physicals activity) for the next 5- 7 min. This helps my eyes and my mind rest in between study sets.
