My best study tip would be to develop a system of progress testings. So much material to keep straight it is hard to remember information from say chapter 1 when you are working in chapter 8 (FAR). I have found after each chapter, I take a progress test of Chapters 1- the current chapter I am working on. I am new to the forum and adding supplements to my study material. I started with Becker material only but need new material and perspective to master some of the topics.
REG: 80 Jan 2013
BEC: 76 Feb 2013
FAR: 71, April 2013, 67 Nov 2013, Retesting Feb 21, 2014. I really need to get passed this section.
AUD: 60 July 2013 Retesting May 2014.
I am at risk of losing REG and BEC if not finished by July 2014.

The technique that I started using, recently after reading quite a few tips from other ninja bloggers is that, I make it a everyday thing. I am a working mom with 2 kids, who have swimming, dance, and gymnastic classes through the week. Time is my biggest problem. So I fit it in where ever i can. I cant wake up early as i already do . So i listen to the videos as i prepare kids breakfast and pack lunch. I listen to the video as i get dressed for work. I do the ninja flash cards, as i carpool with my husband. At work, i try to hit 10 MCQ questions during my 30 min lunch. Going home, i do the flash cards again. Once home, and after i am done being a mom/wife. I get to settle down around 9 or 9:30pm. I hit MCQ's again for another hour maybe. Some days I have enough energy to push through couple hours. If i stop one day or two, i find myself procasnating. so i keep at it every day. even it it means doing flash cards for 30 mins, or listening to the videos/lectures or reading the lecture notes for 15 mins. it keeps it fresh in my head. so if one afternoon, i want to go to the gym, i know i atleast got do study/review for 30 mins during the day. and who says i do not listen to the lectures in the gym. 🙂 I attempted the exam in 2011. And am starting it again this year. I am not giving up on my dream yet. taking a total different approach and making it a part of my life.
Aud – Scheduled for early April
wish everyone good luck in acheiving ur dreams.

February 13, 2014 at 11:40 pm #514695HunnsterrMemberMy best CPA exam tip is to find a way to break out of procrastination. Procrastination is a big evil during CPA exams. . Procrastination causes students to fail in meeting their study targets. Unprepared students tend to keep rescheduling their exams due to procrastination, which ends up bringing more negativity and stress.
Be firm on your GOAL of passing the particular subject(s) during the testing window. Remind yourself every morning that you'll be ready for the exam. Stay calm and constantly focused on your Goal. Exercise every morning. Take our flashcards along with you for that morning walk. Or listen to Jeff's NINJA audio while jogging.
Make sure you make the most out of your allotted number of study hours during the week. Find a calm place to study where you can get the most output. I personally make a list of all distractions and write a solution next to each one of them.
BEC - 88
REG - 72, 78
FAR - 75
AUD - 64, 64, 3rd attempt!!!"A day of worry is more exhausting than a day of work" - John Lubbock

February 13, 2014 at 11:42 pm #514697TumyumMemberHere is my 2 cents on how to tackle the CPA exams!!!
1. Must have all the information available such as CPA review (Yaeger), Cram courses (Roger), NInja (Notes/Flash). The extra supplements help me pass on the 2nd try.
2. Make study a habit/routines! If I cannot study for some reason, I feel really really bad and like I cheated on myself.
3. I always give myself pressure during my study for the CPA exams. With the right amount of pressure, it will make me study harder, vision myself to be at a much better position than right now, and help me growth more mature as an individual.

February 13, 2014 at 11:43 pm #514699jloughMemberMy best CPA tip is to make a schedule and stick to it. Treat studying like brushing your teeth or combing your hair– it's something that you HAVE to do everyday (or at least everyday that is on your schedule). Once you get into a good habit of putting the time in, you'll be surprised with how well you start retaining the information.

This exam ALMOST defeated me back in 2006-2008, but I came back and WON!

February 13, 2014 at 11:44 pm #514701ShayneMemberCareer Tips:
Never be afraid to volunteer for a task or project you haven't done before. Chances are you will figure out how to succeed and you will be recognized as someone who can be depended upon for the difficult tasks in difficult times (aka, the best opportunities).
In an interview, never complain about your last/current place of employment, unless you really don't want the new job.
Study Tip:
If you have a spouse and or family, let them know you will always have time for them, even when you need to study; you will not succeed without their support.
This is why I joined:

February 13, 2014 at 11:45 pm #514703AnonymousInactiveAfter reading Jeff’s CPA Survival Guide eBook, I stumbled upon the segment involving relationships and mixing them with studying for the CPA Exam. Long before reading his thoughts I always shared my own thoughts with others on this topic.
So, what is my CPA Exam study tip contest entry?
Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT think the CPA Exam is more important than your relationship.
I’m currently on a plan to have all 4 parts completed and passed within 6 months. And what do you think is 8 months away from now? My fiancé and I’s wedding in October (perfect timing, right?)
My advice to those who are in a relationship (and are trying to explain to their significant other the complexities of the CPA Exam, but they just don’t understand) is to review your study plan on a calendar with your partner.
I have laid out the groundwork for the next six months with my fiancé. She is able to see that on Monday and Friday is “our time” to do wedding planning or other activities; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are my study nights when I will be doing the Early, Lunch, Late plan and Saturday is reserved for at least 6 to 8 hours of heavy studying with free time at night to spend with each other. This leaves Sunday to relax with room for little review, some audio, or a bit of flashcard action. After some rearranging, we both agreed upon this plan.
So there you have it, my CPA study tip for those who are trying to balance studying with your relationship.

February 13, 2014 at 11:47 pm #514705AnonymousInactiveSince it appears that there are already dozens of [great] tips on how to prepare for the CPA exam, I'm happy to share some advice once you're in public accounting, no matter if you're at a local, regional, national, or Big4 firm.
The key once you're in public accounting is to not only pass the CPA exam and beef up your technical skills, but to build your human capital. Public accounting is a great opportunity to network with professionals from a myriad of backgrounds, which in turn could benefit you in the future. More specifically, your job prospects upon exiting public accounting will have grown exponentially. I highly recommend attending as many networking events as possible i.e. firm-related mixers, state CPA society events (for instance, CalCPA, a society for CPAs in California, regularly holds mixers and/or networking events), or “meet the firms” events at your alma mater. So get out there and build your professional network — you never know who you may run into!
