My best exam tip is specifically for the FAR, this helped me tremendously with cutting down my time and stress. While taking the test I did the following:

    – Went through and answered all the questions that did not require calculations first I did not even waste time reading the ones that had numbers in them. I then went back and did all of the calculations. This was great for my speed and stress levels. I used the flags for things I wanted to revisit after that going through all questions in a section.

    – Also in FAR you must practice simulations extensively.

    Exam tip:

Wait until you have time to study. Get your life organized first and make sure you don't have a lot of distractions to throw you off track. I tried to study and buy a home at the same time and I found myself stretched a bit thin.

There is no substitute for actually putting in the time to review notes and doing the multiple choice questions so make sure you begin the process when you can dedicate 100% of your brain power to studying. You'll study a lot more effectively and save yourself a lot of frustration.

I also found that listening to the Ninja Blitz the night before the exam helped me out a lot. It rounded out my knowledge and it was nice break from reading.

The greatest career advice that I can pass along is to network, both internally and externally. Don't get pigeon holed by hanging with your direct peers and not connecting with other business units. You should also understand the politics, but avoiding be caught up in them.

So far, my success (passing FAR on my first try) was achieved by being efficient with my time. I recommend going through half of the multiple choice questions for each section during and after reading and taking notes and recording how well you do so that when it comes time to go over more MCQ or review at the end, you have a very detailed list of what you need to work on. It worked for me with FAR! Good luck everyone and thanks Jeff!

I just had a new born and I am struggling with the sleeping times. I am tired through out the day, but I just go with it and study. I would recommend leaving the house to study because being at home will be distracting on trying to help, then studying for a good allocated amount of time. A period of five hours will be good and review notes after words.

Make a realistic study plan that you are able to fully commit to; otherwise, you will think you are studying 6 hours when in reality you are only studying 2 hours. For example, I would make a study plan that included studying 6 hours on Saturday and 6 hours on Sunday but I really only ended up studying about 2 hours.

Once I set up a better plan with small breaks in between, I was able to do other things that I wanted to do and I was able to focus on studying when I actually sat down to study!

    Hope this helps… 🙂

My tip is to finish your CPA exams before you sign a two year contract with a firm. Speaking from experience i wish i had that tip before.

Set up a study schedule with the chapters you plan on finishing per week and leave at least two weeks for review. Set up a study timer for 50 mins at a time. During this time, no looking at your phone or casual conversation. During review, do as many MCQs as you can even if you don't feel ready for them. I learn best by going through tons of MCQs. Look at your weaker areas and keep doing MCQs in those areas until you hit at least a 75. Make flashcards for mnemonics.
