A lot of people offer advice that includes studying in the evening. However- although I'm a lifelong “night owl”, I find it impossible to study in the evening after a long day at work and caring for young kids after work. It sounds crazy, but I have had so much greater success getting up at 4am and putting in 2 hours every morning before work. It is HARD to roll out of bed, but I treat it like it's not a choice. Like I'm catching a plane. Staying in bed is not an option. And once I do, I find that my mind is at its freshest and I'm not nodding off in my chair, like I am if I try to study in the evening (even without a 4am wake up!)

When you get a MCQ wrong, do not just click “next question”. Look up the answer, understand why you got it wrong, and write down a hint or applicable formula in a fact nugget notebook, then move on. If you get that question wrong again next time, repeat above until you get right!!

This how I finally defeated BEC!!

    Audit 10/2012- 77
    Reg- 1/7/13- 82
    Financial-2/25/13- 78
    BEC- 74,66,81!

    License pending : )

    Ethics- Passed
    Experience- Done

    Using Becker self study.
**For BEC retake using Ninja Blitz, Ninja Notes, Ninja Audio, and WTB (my Becker expired)

My tip: quality beats quantity. I used to study for 6 to 8 hours on the weekends yet I could only retain so little. I then tracked my study time and energy level to learn when I could study best. 8 – 11pm at night is when I am least distracted, so the 3 hours I got out of this equal 6 hours I beat myself up on the weekends. Everyone is different, so learn when and where you study best. I learned more about myself during this CPA journey that I'm a visual learner (I wish I had figured out sooner). So I've incorporated more maps, flowcharts, and drawings in my notes to help me memorize the materials better.

    Tip:

There is a such thing as too much time to prepare, I think 2 months is the maximum time period for preparation and some might argue that is even too long. If you give yourself too much time you wont study as hard and you'll most likely forget anything you learned in the first few weeks.

    AUD - 75 ☺
    FAR - 65, 71, 70, 77 ☺
    BEC - 80 ☺
    REG - 73, 66, 79 ☺ 2/28/15

Flash cards flash cards, and more flash cards. It helps to write the material down in bite-sized pieces, and then using the tool to study – even offline.

Using Becker, and Ninja flashcards helps, but sometimes the old fashioned paper methods are helpful.

Best tip I can give is to take abbreviated notes on the MCQ's and Sims. I use Wiley test bank and pretty much write down every other question. I cut down a lot of writing, effort and time by abbreviating all of the words and keeping the question/definition short, max of 5 words and writing the explanation immediately under it in the same short format. It keeps it very organized and it's very easy and fast to read, just gives your memory clues pretty much and you eventually recall the entire session of questions and answers for every module just by taking a quick read over your concise notes!

Keep it fresh (on your mind), everyday while studying. Ninja audio notes are the best I've found during running, cooking, driving, showers, etc….all adds up to an extra 1 to 2 hours/day of memory enhancement!

    All the Best!
