The best study tip I have is writing/creating a study plan that is realistic for you. When I first started I thought I can study every single day for 4 hours and like 20 hours for the weekend for 2 months and be so beyond ready for the exam. The truth it was unrealistic and I found myself constantly in a battle to “catch” up.

I had countless revised study plans. I think you should a weekly goal. I want to over XYZ by Friday. Then you don't have this daily pressure and need to run through the lessons without really grasping the concepts. I found when I relax and said I will get through this I was successful.

Finally – bonus tip for CPAExcel users. As I am studying FAR (11 days til dooms day) I found a great way to focus my studies and hit the main questions is to take each of their diagnostic tests for each section. It ranges from 4-25 questions depending on how large the lesson is and really focuses the main points. I wish I had used this method for AUD and BEC.

    AUD - 70 4/22/13, 10/19/2013 83 🙂
    BEC - 7/15/2013, 78:)
    FAR - 2/24/2014, 80 🙂
    REG - 5/19/2014

This is my school study tip, but I plan to apply it to CPA study once I'm eligible (May!):

Don't wait to study just because you don't have an hour or hours to do it.

    Little bits add up.

The best tip for the CPA exam I have is repetition, repetition, repetition. Listen to the lecture while highlighting, then takes notes AND make flash cards after. Then do MC and then go over and take notes on the MC you got wrong, and do it again! Better to beat it to death and to pass then to have to repeat!

I would say to get into a routine. Much like working out it's best if you can get a weekly routine setup. For me it's getting food on the way home from work and start studying right when I get home. Watch videos for an hour take a break watch and other hours worth and then do a bunch of MC questions. Just knowing that at a certain time you'll be studying helps you commit to it. Once you get into the flow of things it becomes second nature.

Hmmm. Take the time to study as much as possible. Get a good CPA review course (I have used Yaeger and passed Audit and BEC the first time) I have taken REG twice though, so there is no guarantee even with a good review course.

With Yaeger, there is an instructor hotline which I used before my REG re-take.

Buy the NInja notes and audio and use them every day. Yaeger also has a good audio cram course too.

Take time to relax, exercise, and play, as there is more to life than study.

Use CPA for Free review questions. Also, I downloaded Joe Ben Hoyle's motivational book on the CPA for Free website and found it extremely inspiration and encouraging.

Most of all, don't give up when the going gets tough. I almost did but the motivational book mentioned above helps.

Support each other like we are doing on this forum – It might encourage someone like me not to give up.

If you can, take some time off before each test to review. This helped me pass Audit and BEC the first time.

Thank you for reading this and have a good day.

    Audit - 78
    BEC - 76
    Reg - 71, 78 2/3/14
    FAR - 77

One advice I would give regarding the CPA exam is to really do the due diligence as far as knowing what you get yourself into before you start studying for this exam. This is not some college class that you can pass on the fly, it really takes a lot of hard work and dedication to pass the exams.

    Good luck everyone!

A lot of people offer advice that includes studying in the evening. However- although I'm a lifelong “night owl”, I find it impossible to study in the evening after a long day at work and caring for young kids after work. It sounds crazy, but I have had so much greater success getting up at 4am and putting in 2 hours every morning before work. It is HARD to roll out of bed, but I treat it like it's not a choice. Like I'm catching a plane. Staying in bed is not an option. And once I do, I find that my mind is at its freshest and I'm not nodding off in my chair, like I am if I try to study in the evening (even without a 4am wake up!)
