I have been scouring the boards looking for a position after tax season. I have read several Accountant positions in my area and just froze when it came to applying. I have ran my own business for over 20 years, I have my Bachelors and Masters in Accounting and need to really pass this CPA exam. I believe I will be over qualified for some of these positions, but Has anyone felt intimidated by the job descriptions or maybe feel like not being able to live up to the hype of being a CPA?

It all depends on where you experience comes from while running your own business.
If you did bookkeeping and tax prep, then I'd aim for that type of job with a firm.
I have 15 years in tax experience, and reading some of the job postings leaves me feeling a little bewildered. I know taxes inside and out though.

    SkyNet always cracks me up.

Fake it till you make it!!

I was wondering about will my experience qualify to be licensed. I know about the 1 year under a Cpa. So what do you guys think, will my experience be enough.

So I printed off the Impostor Syndrome symptoms and gave it to my friends last night over a meal. Everybody is going, “where did you get this”? So others are printing it off as an office challenge. Just thought you guys might want to know.

LOL Calvinus, might want to look up the definition of syndrome. Insecurity coupled with other common traits are the very definition of Syndrome.

Tn I'm glad you've gotten something out of it, I was introduced to the idea when my friend was getting her doctorate in sociology and did a paper on it. It was my “ah ha” moment.

“A syndrome is a set of medical signs and symptoms…” (wiki)

So no, I wouldn't generally classify this as a medical condition or illness.

If you aren't intimidated by public before you've had any experience, you're in the wrong profession.

Overconfidence and arrogance are not becoming traits in an accountant who has professional responsibilities to the public.

    Maybe try finance…or “management”.

Merriam Webster says a set of concurrent things that usually form an identifiable pattern. It's no wiki mind you, but it is the actual dictionary lol.
