I have been through 14 separate interviews ranging from 30min to 1.5 hours this recruiting season, and still have at least 2 more coming…. a couple questions I can recall are:
what would your parents say your strengths are?
Give me an example when you had to work in a team.
Give me an example of a time when things didn't go as planned.
Give me an example when you had to work with someone you didn't agree with or who didn't pull their weight.
Tell me about a time when you had to work with someone who does things differently than you.
Why public accounting?
What do you struggle with?
What do you do for fun?
What's the most complicated excel spreadsheet you have worked on?
Do you have any questions for me?
And the only question I got surprised by, and didn't have a really good answer for was:
Tell me about a time you failed and how you overcame it.
I was specifically asked all these questions at least once during my interviews with a big 4, a regional, and two smaller firms. I would have some plans to answer any of them… and yes, would always carry an extra copy of your resume with you to any interview. You never know if it will be needed.
