Does anyone know of any inexpensive e-file tax software? I have a few clients that I will be doing taxes for this year, and was wondering what you all use for your e-filed returns?

I just talked to a CPA that practices in my hometown that switched from Lacerte to Drake because his Lacerte fees were running north of $16k per year. He had no issues with Lacerte except for the price.

    FAR - MAY - 84
    AUD - AUG - 88
    REG - AUG - 92
    BEC - Dec - 82

    KY Licensed!

I'm helping out a CPA this year that did something similar – he had UltraTax which wasn't that expensive, but had a lot of little additional fees – like a fee for each return efiled, a fee for each state, etc., from what I've gathered. He only does about 100 returns (I think?) but figured it was about $6000-7000 a year for his software! That's a ridiculous amount! So, he switched to Drake. He loved UltraTax, it was what he's been using since he started doing taxes in the 90's, but he couldn't stomach the price anymore.

Now he's working on learning Drake…I spent about 3 hours at his office last night walking him through his first returns. (It's not a hard software to learn, but this guy is not as technologically savvy as some, so the prospect of new software intimidates him.)

I have been using Intuit Tax Online, as I only prepare a handful (about 15) returns and only 1 1120S. Its a pay per return, but if you purchase 20 individuals, it's 14.95 a return, and states are included. It is not a very user friendly system, as I was preparing returns on drake, and I have to re-setup my firm information from last year which was a pain. But for the price and the easy of having the returns on the cloud is why I chose this as my set-up. HTH!
