In public accounting do you bill when doing a no2 or do you round down?

Is the billable clock always running?

It probably depends on the firm, but I worked for a firm once who specifically said, “Even if you're on the toilet and thinking about something for a client, that counts toward billable time.”

While this won't help answer your question, it reminded me of one of my favorite poop analogies while at work.

“Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime, that's why I poop on company time.”

In my firm, the clock is always running, but there's an “admin” time code that is for anything non-billable. A certain percentage of your day is expected to be billable time. They will write up or down the hours actually spent based on history with the client and what they think they really should be charged. Your goal is to get as close to that as possible, or have write-ups. Write-ups mean the firm is making money.

Constant time entry is literally the only thing I don't like about public accounting lol but I'm an accounting and finance nerd, so I don't mind any of the work.
