We’d all be broke and standing in line for food stamps! In the past two weeks I’ve been told “I don’t know why you came here. There isn’t anything I can do to help you.” Hello, Dr. A$$hat are you an effing Doctor or do you just play one during the day? Different Dr. A$$hat, “Are you sure this isn’t psychological?” Umm, I can’t talk, I can’t swallow and it’s painful to breathe, I don’t think that’s psychological you (insert all of the dirty words known to man in every language on the planet and then make up some new ones). WTF!!!

My favorite so far has been “We need $1,800 cash today to schedule this procedure.” So I paid them. Gave them my debit card number with no hesitation. I get there at 9am yesterday, no coke, no food, no nothing but two pills and 1/2 cup of water. They cancelled it as soon as I got there! I drove 2 1/2 hours to get there too. Nice! They had my cell phone number because they called me before I even got home, to reschedule. I called my ENT and he said “Why did the surgeon schedule that test? That’s not what I told him you needed.” He was not a happy doctor. So he got me scheduled with another surgeon at 1pm today. That was fast. Hopefully this one won’t be a jerk.

But the real kicker is that the jerks that had to have $1,800 before they could schedule a procedure I didn’t need have told me that I will get a refund check, less a 10% processing fee, in 4 – 6 weeks. I’ll be polite and not repeat what I actually said but lets just agree that the top blew off of the box and I went all POCA! There are a few things a Cajun has that you don’t mess with, our family, our friends and our money!

If we ran our offices like this, we wouldn’t have any clients for very long. I’ve had to make up so many new dirty words over this. FAR is scheduled for 11/21 and I’m going to pass this test. I WANT MY LIFE BACK, or what’s left of it when the doctors get through with it.

    Rant over!

I hope everyone on the East Coast is alright and Sandy didn’t cause too much damage. I’d come help clean up but I don’t think I’d be much help right now. I can post a Gumbo recipe! Stay safe and be careful of downed power lines.

I went to a Dr specialist and they said I had to be there 15 minutes early to complete new patient paperwork and if I was late they would cancel and reschedule my appointment. I was there 20 minutes early and did my paperwork. 30 minutes after the start time of my scheduled appointment I had not yet been seen. The Dr. staff said they had no idea how long it would be. No one said anything to me about sorry they were late. I cancelled. I wish Dr.'s didn't think they were god.

Kricket. I feel your pain. Especially if you are having issues with your thyroid. I'm discovering the hard way that the worst part about thyroid cancer is not the actual cancer but what happens after the thyroid has been removed and you are left having to rely on doctor's to effectively regulate the medicine that is needed.

I'm appalled at the inefficiency of specialized medicine. You might have one issue but 4 doctors, all wanting their own tests run. Tests that have already been performed but may not be by their lab, so they want them done again. And in the process, the patient gets 10 bills for one procedure. None of the specialists actually communicate effectively with each other so the patient is left to not only gather the details of each procedure but be able to recite them to each doctor. And depending on the level of arrogance each doctor has, they may choose to take the issue seriously or completely dismiss it by suggesting a psychiatrist.

I actually got into it with my now former endocrinologist last week for similar reasons: arrogance, dismissiveness and inefficiency. I had been having severe headaches for 7-8 months, around the same time I started on the thyroid medication. When I got off the medication, the headaches would stop. When I started back on the medication, the headaches would start. It was obvious to me that the headaches were a side effect of the medication (kinda seems logical, eh?) But the doctor wouldn't have it. He repeatedly denied that headaches were a side effect of thyroid issues. Which was odd because the pamphlets and posters on display in his office described headaches as a potential side effect of thyroid problems and the corresponding medications involved. After switching medications, the headaches stopped. He still would not believe that it had anything to do with the original medication. So he got an earfull from me.

Unfortunately, we are our only advocate. And I hope that everything works out for you. You may want to call your insurance company and make a formal complaint. And make your voice heard on the internet. Review the doctor or facility on google maps, so anyone looking at this facility will be able to read your experience with them. You may even want to talk to the department of insurance in your state. See if you can file a complaint with them as well.

I would continue to be POCA until they agree not to charge YOU their ridiculous 10% fee, it was NOT your fault!

I hope everything goes well today with this surgeon! Fingers crossed and update us when you can!

My CPA boss ran his office like a doctor's office and had tax preparers input the client's information and make notes for him to review when everything was inputted into the computer and when he did come in to review the client's tax return, he didn't even bothered to look over any notes but ran through it to the results. Finally if something was wrong then he would blame the preparers for doing things wrong and not himself for not reviewing their work properly. He believed his method of business was efficient to get clients in and out of the door, although his appointments always takes a long time but not because he was analyzing the client's tax return but because he spends most of his time talking about his life story. Total fail.
