As I get closer to the 150 hr requirement to sit, I been thinking about the CPA exam alot, like everyday. A part of me can’t wait to start studying for the exam later next year (mostly because I will get to re-learn all the accounting I learned in school that I have pretty much forgotten now). I kind of feel weird for being excited because I know how exhausting and difficult the CPA exam journey is and I know it will consume my life until I pass it. Is it normal to be excited about preparing for the CPA exam even though I know it will take over my life?

I think when you are in school. You have an optimistic view of your future…that optimism evaporates quickly once you graduate and start working. I was really excited to start studying for the exam. I think I wasn't excited about taking the exam, I was excited about what I can do AFTER I pass the exams. That excitement died the first day I started studying. I finished two parts and now my motivation has taken some serious toll. Now I am just counting down the days till my exams are done. November 30th can't come fast enough!

    Hello JY,

Are you a fresh/recent graduate? What course do you use? I have been out of school for a good 8-year and will start studying Oct 12th.

    Good Luck. You're halfway there!

Thanks! I graduated 3 years ago and have been working in both industry and public accounting. I started studying in June using Becker Review + Final Review Notes+ Wiley TB. From what I hear if you use both Becker + Wiley TB, you should have all your basis covered. Becker and Wiley both have some unique questions that you can practice on. You should definitely get both if you can.

@JY-Thank you. I am going to purchase the Ninja 10-point combo which includes the Ninja Notes/FC/Audio/Blitz and WTB). I have Wiley CPA Exam Review book for FAR. I have not made up my mind yet for a full review course. I have less than 2 weeks to decide as I will begin studying in Oct 12th.

I am working full-time, have a family and a 5-year old son. On top of these, I have been out of school for 8 years.

I do believe I can do this. I just need to find and get the right TOOLS. Again, thank you.
