I’ve been trying to get a job I really have . I’ve sent out over 50 resumes and no reply. I have no work experience and barely 3.0 GPA. Do you guys think it’s better for me to apply in person or keep sending emails? Any advice would be appreciated.

    THANKS TO GOD

I know you are going to hate me saying this but Networking is key. I got my last job because one of my college buddies worked there. I started in AR and then moved in to a staff accountant role.

What kind of jobs are you applying for? Where are you looking?

Another thing to consider is what kind of story are your resume and cover letter telling? If you're still in school (or as an alumni you can still access career services) have someone look both over. Make sure that if you're responding to a job ad, that the keywords from that ad are in both your resume and cover letter. You can and very likely should be sending several different versions of your resume (when I apply to finance jobs I go into more detail about my finance experience and when I apply to accounting jobs I go into more detail about my accounting experience) and make sure your cover letter makes whoever is reading it WANT to learn more about you.

Have you any work experience at all? Even flipping burgers can be on your resume and you can use words that will help you, like always met or exceeded customers expectations, assisted cashiers as necessary, etc.

And whatever you do, DO NOT put your GPA on your resume. Ever. If the employer wants to know, they will ask and you can answer honestly.

I graduated with a 2.976 so I never put it on my resume. If they ask, I tell them what happened honestly

I have been at my same part time job since high school. 7 years. I do not have any actual work experience in accounting at all. I'm trying to get into tax accounting. I graduated in 2014 with my accounting degree with the 150 cpa units required for California and I have 3 out 4 of cpa exams passed. IVe always had a hard time getting an interview. Thank you all for your comments I appreciate it.

7 years??? I'm on my 10th job right now in 7 years.. which doesn't look good on a resume either, but eh w/e.

you've passed 3/4 sections of the exam.. put that on top as the very first thing they'll see.

don't do unpaid internships. there's always in need of a company looking for a bookkeeper for $10-12/hr.

If you have less than a 3.0 GPA, then don't put it on your resume. If you don't have work experience and if all else fails, you can apply for internships (either paid or unpaid since experience is what you need first), or apply for smaller firms and work your way up.

Try using other career websites like Indeed, Careerbuilder, or your school career website.

Also have you checked your social media presence? I know a lot of recruiters want to see what you look like and if you have public pictures of you getting wasted and hitting the beer bong, then they might not want that type of person.

I'm way past social medias. The only social media I have is linked in. I want to be professional not like I'm still in high school. Should I try adding people on linked in for possible job opportunities?
