After 3 years from high school, I had to take alot (2 semesters worth) of developmental math (DMA) classes at my community college but I passed them with flying colors, I also managed to get a B in a math class that is required to be accepted into the business school at the university I want to transfer to, should I still major in Accounting even though math is not my strongest? Is there alot of math in Accounting?

There is math in accounting, but its basic math. Everyone thinks that Accounting is all about math, and although its true you deal with numbers, it is not difficult math. Accounting is more conceptual than anything else. Accounting uses the double entry system, which is the fundamental concept that states that every financial transaction has an equal and opposite effect in at least two different accounts. The accounting equation is Assets = Liabilities + Equity. In order to book entries you have debits and credits and when you book an entry you have to make the debit side balance the credit side. Debits must always equal Credits. This is what I mean when I say Accounting is all conceptual.

Sure, you will add and subtract, and you will use ratios in order to perform analytical procedures, but that's about the only math you will use. I strongly suggest you take an intro to accounting course and see if it is for you. You will learn the basics in that class and from there the core financial accounting courses will continue to build if you decide to major in accounting.

    Hope this helps.

What math? If you can add, subtract, divide and multiply than you're golden!

Accounting is all about logic. Yeah there is a lot of numbers, but not a lot of doing math.

My undergrad is in electrical engineering which is an actual math field. Accounting is not. Accounting is about attention to detail and following a logical ruleset.

Accounting is not math, the math is very basic…It's about knowing how to record things properly and making sure your debits equal your credits. I hate math 🙂 LOL

There's a reason why we're diminutively called bean counters lol. I remember seeing someone's PhD dissertation for economics; wow, that thing was filled with calculus equations.

I second everyone here, it's pretty basic as far as numbers. That being said, quick and accurate mental math is a very useful skill.
