Anyone else studying on the down low so co-workers (who are also testing) and friends won’t bug you about your score if you unfortunately fail? I’m taking the last of my first round of exams Dec 5. I’m waiting for my reg score which should come out on the 22nd and I passed audit but failed FAR. As far as anyone else knows…..I’ve only taken far and studying for BEC now hahaha

I tried to study on the down low, but it was hard to lie when every other day someone from my office asked me when I was going to start studying. I should have taken your approach, and only lied about my progress. I wish I didn't have to tell the story of how I failed Audit to so many co-workers, and it's going to be annoying to give the “I guess I didn't study enough” speech again in 3 weeks when I fail FAR.

    REG - 80 (2/28/13)
    AUD - 68 (5/24/13), 84 (7/11/13)
    BEC - 83 (8/29/13)
    FAR - 70 (12/04/13) 80 (2/10/14)

When i first started this round with the CPA exam only my husband knew I was studying. As time went on i told a few people here and there know but for the most part people don't know. Personally I like people not asking me and bugging me. I told one friend who i thought would understand and I said please try not to ask me about it, it stresses me out, horrible mistake she asked all the time, till one day i legit flipped out on her, well she hasn't asked since and I haven't told anyone else since.

Its hard to make up excuses but at work i say i have other obligations with friends, and friends i tell them i am working….So far it has been ok…good luck!

    A - 61, 91!!
    B - 78!
    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

    Yep

I'd agree with previous comments – i had 10 people from an office of 35, ask me about last Saturday's exam. I thought that only one or two knew i was taking it.

I have even had people ask about the result. I told them that i will not check my score, and will wait for the result.

    Reg 82; FAR 75; AUD 91; BEC 11/9/13; result due - 11/22/13

I agree with everyone else. The biggest mistake I made out of excitement is tell everyone I am studying to take the CPA exam. Most of them don't really know what the test is and the rest just continually ask me “did you pass yet?” How I regret talking too much. I failed reg and I failed Far and have been up and down since trying to get on a roll again to pass at least one part before the year end. Lesson well learned, I am not talking or telling until I pass all parts. :-)). Some say its motivation to pass, I say its annoying.

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to pass

I took my exam Nov. 2 and have had at least 10 people from work ask me about my exam – some of them have asked several times if I've found out the results yet.

As sad as it is to say – I believe some of them are secretly rooting for me to fail, and I'm not sure why.

In hindsight I wish I'd kept the exam under wraps from people at the office – when it's something you work so hard for and care so much about, it can be a very sensitive subject.

My boyfriend is the only one who knows. I don't need the added stress from co-workers about test scores. No one at my job will know until I have passed all 4 parts.

    AUD-PASS
    BEC-PASS
    FAR-PASS
    REG-PASS
    I'm done!

I started out only telling my husband (obviously) and my mom and dad. Turns out I share a lot and ended up telling the rest of my family which wasn't surprising then my husband's family (much more surprising and we're not close but then again its usually awkward silence which is the WORST) so I broke down and told them. Then people at my work… The weird thing about this is that one dude who I talk to a lot asked why I was gone for two days which was to study. I told him the test and like a week later he asked how I did. I told him I didn't know but I think a 68% (just a feeling lol) a few days later i get a call from someone else over there “A little birdie told me you passed the CPA” (false/not sure yet) He had a question which I didn't know as I”m not on REG yet so I asked out tax lady lol Took the credit mind you. It felt good but I guess if your gone two days in a row Its odd because another person asked why I was gone lol Its like Mind yo business! In short, I wish I was able to not share so much but alas! I am not. My rule is if I fail I just said fail. No one needs to know my score no matter who bad… or badder it is lol

everyone at work knows i'm taking it, all the partners, managers, fellow staff lol I mean it was one of my talking points in my interview to show initiative and commitment, nor much way around it. It actually can be a great motivator when everyone knows.
