I was wondering if anyone had an idea of how much you get paid working for H&R block. CPA and Non CPA pay if anyone knkows

Well, 10 years ago, hourly pay was about 9/hr in NW Ohio for new preparers. Today I would assume a new preparer would make maybe 12-13/hr. I have a cousin who isn't a CPA (not EA either) that makes around 20-25/hr there, but shes been there 20 years. In most states a CPA candidate would need at least a year of work experience to even be licensed. I can't imagine a CPA would even want to work there. Perhaps I'm wrong.

they pay $10 an hour your first year. You get a potential bonus the next, but it really isn't worth it unless you cannot get a tax prep job anywhere else. I will probably be working there this upcoming tax season

Min wage, cpa or not for seasonal employees. Bonus at end of season based on returns prepared and raises after first year I believe based on returning clients.

Jackson Hewitt gives a small bump for CPA if you enjoy sitting in a shower stall in the center of a Walmart having people tell you what a ripoff you are and how they can do it with turbotax for $300 less…………….

I'm sure it varies not only regionally, but by offices locally since most (all?) locations are franchised. In general, for entry-level positions, wages are at/near local minimum wage; returning tax preparers generally earn a couple bucks or so more. Keep in mind you pay for your training costs, although in some areas of the country where the economy is thriving, the franchisee may cover the cost. And unsurprisingly, the more work you bring into the office, the greater your pay and/or bonus will be.

In my area, H&R Block is opening up franchises that offer book keeping & tax preparation for small businesses. I would suspect the CPAs working in these practices are probably the owners but the pay for bookkeepers & accountants is probably similar to other local, small firms.
